  1. The information is not limited to just the 8Y forum. Search for "cambelt" with the "everywhere" filter. Unfortunately the search function is not very discriminating so you will need skim through a lot of irrelevant stuff.
  2. I don't understand why one would change from a well loved car in good condition to a defective car, just because its engine is one tenth of a litre bigger.

Previously owned an A4 TDI 177 Quattro Black Edition for over 12 years — hands down the best car we’ve ever had. Economical, quick enough, and this was a brand-new model at the time. It needed a couple of updates over the years but was never an inconvenience. Our local garage/MOT station actually bought the car from us, and the only fault code present at the time of sale was something related to the radio. He still has the car and uses it regularly, which says a lot. That’s exactly why we chose to buy another Audi.

  5. Cheers steve 👍🏻
  6. I can vouch for that, Darkside developments are well documented on youtube and are well known with 1.9 tdi engines and audi vag skoda community. My personal opinion id keep the 1.9 tdi b7, I sold my avant b7 a few years ago non sline but put the sline wheels and badges on it and looked the part had the 1.9 tdi 115 engine and was bulletproof wished id of kept it sold it at 160k to a mechanic in wales for £1250 around 4 years ago and would scream to have that car back now over this Audi q7 ive got they are a headache these new cars, i swear by the 1.9 tdi engine its always been renowned for its bulletproof reliability.
  7. Hi steve thanks for the reply buddy hope you're well? I think it looks like its blowing near the injector but im unsure as im not familiar with this 3.0 tdi engine does it look like the injector is leaking or its blowing on the video steve? Thanks again buddy
  8. Hi can't see what the problem is, if its five years or near get it changed, had a few posters on here that have had incredibly low milage cars that have thrown a belt because they thought the milage should count, you must of paid well for a car with that milage so why dither about another say £500 for a cam belt change which will rubber stamp engine life for another five years, in the final analysis what's your car worth with a blown engine?. Steve.
  9. Have you asked your local Audi Service Dept.? Can’t hurt.
  10. Older Guidelines: 40,000 - 60,000 miles or 5 years. Newer Models/Engines (e.g., 1.5 TSI): Can be significantly higher mileage (e.g., 100k+) but still with a time limit (e.g., 5 years). When in doubt, a proactive change (e.g., at 60k miles/5 years) offers peace of mind against potential engine failure, which is very costly. PLEASE NOTE:- The quotations in this post are challenged on accuracy under my post of 18 January. Please read. Magnet ( Gareth) - Moderator.
  11. Good decision. Quattro is only beneficial in terrible snow in my opinion. As the saying goes your better with the devil you know rather than a devil you don't know. Speak to darkside developments about upgrades. They're very experienced with the 1.9. They sell uprated clutch kits.
  12. The 2.0tfsi oil consumption issues/piston ring failures are well documented! Avoid! Especially as you've got an engine in your Avant that's practically bullet proof and sounds well cared for. I'm a diesel fan through and through though so I'm biased. Just retrofit more things to the Avant or mod it to your taste if you're keeping it long term.
  13. Hi buddy yeah i finally found the issue i after changing everything that could possibly of caused it i started looking more into the kive data and found that it was the sensor before turbo in the exhaust manifold. It was reading 1000 degrees when cold. Put a new one in from Darkside Development and it started back up with no issues. Hope this helps mate. Took me 5 months to fix it.
  14. HI Steve i ended up buying another used airbag, but before i did i tested the broken airbag. That connection is actually a ground for the horn. The horn did not function after installing it.
  15. Hi I have come across this problem a lot, most garages only check the soot levels, what about the ASH thats the killer as it can't be burnt off as its like carbon bricks which can only come out the way it went in so therefore your OBD reader was bang on with the high sevens, that was the ASH, I had this when I worked on a Q3 recently soot was fine up to a point but the ash was at 55%, had the DPF professionally cleaned [off car] reinstalled it with a new MAF/MAP and DPF Pressure sensor and EGT, now been perfect for the last couple of months, soot calculated never more than 20g, soot measured after a regen -4g and ash at 1.8g. All good for another 140k. Steve.
  16. Thought I'd drop an update just incase it helps anyone else in the future. Final cause was the DPF. Wasn't showing any fault codes but was blocked solid. New DPF and temp sensor, a good Italian tune up to blow all the !Removed! out of exhaust and it seems good for now. Will keep updating but as far as now its 100% DPF. Current cost is £1250 with a the parts I've fitted so fingers crossed its good for a few years yet. But I've just won a mk2 golf gti with an r32 conversion so if anyone wants a A4 BRD tdi with 130k it may be up for sale soon.
  17. It could well be the wastegate and maybe its become free. Mine juts happened with no prior warning at all or symptons. I've got an OBD 11 reader and it's pretty good to be fair it allows you cycle through everything and watch live data so may be worth you getting one. Ive had 3 garages plug mine in and it always the same fault but as I've changed the MAF and MAP they are stumped and basically refused to look into it anymore ! Fingers crossed it doesn't happen for you again. A good "Italian Tune Up" may of fixed it 😀 Ive got to the point where I just want to find it regardless of cost. Then I can move forward. Its had the recall on the injectors and loom so hoping it's not them. I did and still kind of think maybe contaminated fuel has blocked up pump or injectors. Going down the rabbit hole though thinking of anything and everything !
  18. Hi Andrew, I've had a similar problem twice now, but I'm pretty sure both times were caused by over revving (stereo on, talking to wife, going a bit mutton) when joining a dual carriageway and pushing too hard in 4th so I'm wondering if this is a possibility in your case? First time I nursed it home about 20 miles as I had the kids in the car and didn't want to risk not being able to restart the car after stopping. Symptoms were basically no power like you, but even at higher revs, it felt exactly as if someone had removed the turbo. the water temp, oil pressure and temp were all normal and no smoke from exhaust so I took the chance and got home ok. Had something to eat and let the car cool down then went to investigate, no oil or water loss, so I tried starting the car and everything was fine. Second time a couple of months later the same thing happened but this time I pulled over at the first chance, turned off the ignition and started it again pretty much straightaway and again the problem was gone. Obviously this hasn't worked for you but the problem sounds so similar I'd be interested to know if you cure it as I feel it's only a matter of time before it happens again. Good luck with fixing it mate. Dave
  19. So what's an A3 Sportback e-tron? How is it different from a Q3 S-line? What's up with the S/RS models? Fear not, this handy guide to the current lineup is here to help you MODELS A - Hatchbacks, Sedans, Coupés, Wagons, Cabriolets (A1, A3, A4, A5, A6, A7, A8) Q - SUVs (Q2, Q3, Q5, Q7) In addition to that they have the R8 and the TT lineup. Higher number usually means bigger and more luxurious, more tech, more power. ENGINES AND DRIVETRAINS The numbers (e.g. 3.0) indicate engine displacement in liters. 1.2 through 2.0 are in-line 4 cylinders, 2.3 to 2.5 are 5 cylinders, 3.0 and 3.2 are V6, 4.0 and 4.2 are V8/W8, 5.0 and 5.2 are V10 and there was also the 6.0 W12 FSI: gasoline direct fuel injection TFSI: same as above but with forced induction (either turbo or supercharger, e.g. 2.0T vs. 3.0T). TDI: turbocharged Diesel with direct fuel injection TFSI/TDI ultra: more efficient and clean engines (Diesels have ad-blue) E-tron: hybrid/electric G-tron: natural gas (CNG) H-tron: hydrogen fuel cells In Europe the displacement badges were replaced with just a number from 25 to 55 that corresponds to the total power of the vehicle. This is intended for better comparison between ICE, hybrid and electric vehicles. For example, 55 TFSI would be a ~350 bhp gas engine with forced induction. Here's a handy link to the scale. The performance models won't be using this scale, however. Any of these may be followed by: Quattro: Vehicle is equipped with all-wheel-drive (all other models are front-wheel-drive, except the R8 RWS that has RWD.) Quattro Ultra: more efficient AWD setup that can be 100% FWD on demand BODY STYLES Sedan/Limousine/Saloon: Only used for the A3/S3/RS3 without hatchback. A4 and up are sedans by default. Avant: Wagon version (A4/S4/RS4 Avant, A6/S6/RS6 Avant) Allroad: Wagon version with quattro, a lifted suspension and plastic fenders (A4 Allroad, A6 Allroad) Sportback: Four door version. On the A3/S3/RS3 it adds a hatchback, all other models will keep the Coupé look. (A3/S3/RS3 sportback, A5/S5/RS5 sportback, A7/S7/RS7 sportback) Coupe: Two door coupé (currently only the A5/S5/RS5) Cabriolet: Four seater convertible (A3 cabriolet, A5 cabriolet) TT/S/RS Roadster and R8 Spyder are two seater convertibles. L: Long wheel base version (A6L, A8L) S-Line, S and RS models S: Sportier version of their base model (S1, S3, S4, S5, S6, S7, S8, SQ5, SQ7, TT S). More aggressive styling, bigger engine options, tighter suspension, usually only offered with quattro. S-Line: Base model with the body and styling of the S-model, bigger wheels, leather interior, LED lights as well as options for lower and stiffer suspensions RS: The most powerful versions. They have little in common with their base model counterparts, aside from the overall styling. They're lower, wider, with big turbocharged l5, V6 and V8 engines, usually only offered with an automatic transmission and quattro. (RS3, RS4, RS5, RS6, RS7, RS Q3, TT RS) R8: This one stands out of the lineup for obvious reasons. TRANSMISSIONS Manual: good ol' stickshift Multitronic: CVR/CVT automatic transmission S tronic: dual clutch automatic transmission R tronic: automated manual transmission (only ever used in the 1st gen R8) Tiptronic: torque-converter automatic transmission TRIM LEVELS Premium, Premium Plus and Prestige: They come with various extra features and luxury items. The higher end cars will only be offered in the Premium Plus and Prestige trims. Audi exclusive: Option which gives you more variety for interior materials, paint and wheels. Plus: More power, carbon ceramic brakes, carbon fiber parts (S8 Plus, Audi R8 V10 Plus) Performance: More power, distinctive interior design elements (RS6 Performance, RS7 Performance) Hope this was helpful, written on behalf of reddit user HeavyHDx.
