To correct slightly, The ABS pump has an ECU in it. This has a fault counter which counts up to a pre determined number. When this number is reached it gives a do not drive message to the car dashboard. Audi cannot reset this fault. Audi's remedy is to replace the pump unit at a cost of £3300, or to do it on warranty.

A company called ECUTESTING.COM can reprogram the ECU module for £289 and it works. The fault I originally had was the vac sensor went faulty and I didn't get it fixed in time.

The pump is not faulty. The servo is not faulty. It is merely an ECU counter chip that cannot be reset by AUDI. Replace the vac sensor and then have the ECU reprogrammed.

This reprogramming works and is correct. Please check it out before being stung for what should be an Audi recall!

    This is very informative.

Just to check my understanding; are you saying even when the sensor has been replaced and the error disappears, it's also necessary to have the ECU counter reset?

i get mine off with old 21mm socket with the loads teeth not them crap 50p shape ones  and hammer  allways came off kev

I've done similar in the past, or using thread removal tools. Just jack the car off the ground and be patient.

  3. One on mine looks like that. It was mentioned on MOT last year (before o bought it). Wasn't mentioned this year.

I have to say, the other side does look significantly more robust. Garage said it's ok. Just for context; I've been going there for years and trust their judgement.

I'll take some photos and post for reference.

Found my rear driver brake caliper to be very warm, and was creating a lot of noise when driving. Replaced the caliper, disc, pads, brake line hose and guide pins. Even wire brushed and smoothed out the guide rails on the brake caliper holder that the pads run along. But still the caliper is very warm after driving. The noise has reduced slightly, only making a screech when coming to a halt. Any ideas what else it could be?

Were the guide pins sufficiently lubricated with silicone grease, and a small amount of copper grease added to the pad interfaces on both the cradle and caliper?

    Hello Callum,

When the disc was renewed, was the mating surface  on the hub thoroughly ( in caps) de rusted and dressed to ensure a true mating contact. If not, there is a possibility that the disc is not running true and creating a greater degree of friction on the pads - even when the brakes aren’t being applied. Just a thought.
Wheel bearings? I would have thought that the wheel bearing would have to be completely shot to transmit heat into the caliper - rather than the hub itself. Personally, I would be putting this possibility at the bottom of my list.
    Kind regards,

    Gareth.

I think you're right, but without seeing the car it's a consideration worth making given everything else that has been changed 🙂

    Hi, I bought a B9 Audi A4 Sport 1.4 TFSI

The SE trim was also the same price but the sport sounded nicer lol.

Heard it has lower springs etc, how does that affect the ride? Anything else that's different compared to the SE? I think the seats are also different, but are they generally more comfortable?
I've also noticed my car has a piano black trim running across the dash under the ac vents. But literally every other A4 I look at online has the silver trim?

Interesting set of post-purchase questions 😕

  7. I changed to cabin/pollen filter too, for a Bosch version and could literally smell everything the roads had to offer during my drive in to work yesterday.

Needless to say I've refitted to old one until I get a replacement. Incidentally, that was a VAG part too (fitted by the dealership) with MANN branding.
