    @RoyC Here's the label from my A5

I've noticed since running the pressures at 44 and 39 psi for the 245/40 R18 97V (I have 97Y fitted) over 6 months the tyres are wearing preferentially around the centre. I realise this will happen if over inflated, so I've checked pressure with a second and third gauge.

    Have you noticed this?

  2. Just to close this topic and avoid causing any confusion, the photo I uploaded in the first post is not the EGR valve.

The EGR valve and cooler are located on the lower left rear side of the engine. The side of the valve can been seen looking through the gap indicated by the box in the photo.

Foy anyone wanting to attempt this as a DIY, I can confirm it a 6+ hour job, and requires a great deal of patience

With regards to the Cataclean, I used it back in April and drove to work (~35 miles) in 5th gear so the revs were at around 2000rpm

There are several corners and roundabouts within 0.5 mile of leaving work before I get onto the A road. On the way home, I instantly noticed the car was much smoother accelerating so ran the Cataclean through another 35 miles.

I took some measurements from the particulate filter before and after that can ben found here:

Obviously it didn't fix the P2002 error because at the point at which the light comes on, removal is the only option. However in my view Cataclean is a superb product (thanks @Stevey Y). The car still feels very smooth when cold even before having the EGR Cooler and Valve replaced, so I have continued to use it at the frequency recommended. I've since mentioned it to others for their cars (other Audis, VW, BMW, Vauxhall) with mileage ranging from 60 - 240k and they have all reported the same outcome from the initial dose.

Hi. Thanks for getting back. Not sure it has Apple play as an option.

If I go for the factory Nav is it as simple as just buying a replacement card as have seen some posts about hefty fee for main dealers needing to activate the card if it’s not the original.

I don't know the answer to your SD card question. The factory NAV is !Removed!, so I don't use it.

    Hi all.
Simon here, new to the forum and new to being an Audi owner. Sorry to not come loaded with experience to share but hope on time to be able to learn and support in return.

I am due to pick up a 2017 A4 Avant which has the message SD card not detected or something similar on the display on the Nav option.

The dealer says it had no card when they took it on.

I am after some tips on what card to buy to ensure the Sat Nav will work. I have seen many on eBay with year dates on so do I buy a card dated the year of my car or could I buy a later dated card to have one assumes up to date maps.

The are so many cards available I am a bit lost as to what to go for in a hope to to get a dud or pay for something that is incorrect.

Thanks in advance for your time and help.

    best wishes.

    simon.

    Welcome to the forum.

I personally wouldn't bother with the SD card, after having the same consideration when I bought my latest Audi.

I plug my phone in ti the USB port and use the Android Auto (or Apple Play) which allows Google Maps.

If you really want to use the factory Nav, buy the latest card your budget will allow.

Nice comments here - I'm trying to help my daughters partner buy an estate A4 1.4 but it's the proverbial hens teeth trying to find a reasonable mileage bargain. Do let me know if you hear of anyone contemplating a sale/change.

    Try Big Motoring World

No, same between 50 and 70mph. Only noticed it on motorways so couldn’t say if it does it below 50mph.

MAGNET is right; if the tracking is out the tyres will wear unevenly, but at 4000 miles this could be difficult to identify.

Most places off a free tracking check.

Without driving the car, it could be either the tyre misshapen or needs balancing. Otherwise it's something more sinister. I personally wouldn't leave this too long, but rule out the basics first.

Tyres were new when I bought it at 18,000 miles so only 4,000 miles of wear and nothing noticeable on wear accross the tread.

If you look at the Tyre pressure sticker there are three settings, 'comfort' being the first and lowest setting. Tyre pressures are spot on for normal loading and use.

The inconsistent steering isn't a pull in one direction, it needs constant input from me to keep it online. Normally a motorway should be relaxing with minimum input on the steering but I am having to make small adjustments all the time. It only seems to be on certain road surfaces and fully loaded.it

I'll get the tracking etc checked as it seems a good starting place. Do I need just the front or four wheel alignment? Not sure how much is adjustable at the rear.

    Thanks all.

Does this occur at certain speeds as weighted imbalances will be more noticeable at a given frequency?

Hi thanks for the reply. The 3lr V6 TDI engines in the S4 does not have a dipstick it’s all digital on the MMI.

You have to warm the engine then leave it for 5 minutes for the oil to drain back into the sump. Then take an on screen reading.

the manual states oil usage of up to 0.5ltr per 1000km. So therefore my usage is less than the manual says.

Your original post asks "is this normal or should I be concerned"

You get some solid advice, then come back quoting from the manual stating "usage is less than the manual says"

Are you now happy or still consider there's an issue?

  9. A guy I work with got the free MOT thing with an extended Warranty (in Cambridge I think) and they said he needed a tyre. They wanted something like £290 which was almost double what he could've got it for independently, but Audi wouldn't let him take the car on the grounds it was illegal to drive. And they refused to take it out of the workshop to accommodate him getting a mobile tyre fitter to change it.

    Thank you Jon

i really appreciate your response and sentiment as it makes a lot of sense, but have been struggling to find a VAG specialist (with good reviews) local that is significantly cheaper than Audi dealer, the prices you have been charged are very impressive I have actually been quoted around £750 for cam belt etc and around £340 for Stronic service against £287 from main dealer standard oil change service around the same price, my concern I suppose is if the Stronic box packs in or the engine goes kaput if I haven’t done anything silly the warranty should kick in and cover it I would hope as I dread to think of the cost.

Perhaps I worry too much !

I can empathise with finding a trustworthy garage. I don't have much experience with the B9 models having owned one for not much more than 5 months but my research suggests the catastrophic failure you're concerned about is very very unlikely.

And if you did extend the warranty, how much of the cost would Audi actually cover? You might be better off keeping the money in your bank for the what if 🙂

Perhaps you could get Audi to do the servicing you mention, and leave it there. At least you have some go back if the unlikely happens.

The cambelt is however a year overdue (it's whichever comes first of 5 years or 75k miles), so don't leave it much longer

  11. In my opinion, once a car is outside the manufacturers standard warranty period, spending obscene amounts on keeping up dealership service history is a waste of money.

The VAG specialist I take our cars to charge £130 for an oil and filter change, and £490 for the cambelt, water pump and auxiliary belt (A5 B9) which included a loan car for the duration.

I only pay for whichever of 18,600 miles or 2 years is sooner because the VAG specialist updates the digital service record, so I'll typically be doing an oil change myself (or take them to a trusted garage) at the 9,300 miles and 1 year interval  because of relative mileage/usage difference of both cars.

When the cars reach 100k miles I generally care less about the digital record but still keep up with the proper service schedule because in my experience, anyone buying a car with >100k miles cares less about full dealership service history.

Are you running them with the correct tyre pressure ?

My tyres are 45 psi front and 40 psi rear.

This is a very good point.

I was surprised by the higher pressure going from A4 B8 to A5 B9 - definitely something to check.

Are those pressures for extra load tyres and full occupancy?
