Steering rack
Welcome Lucian, and thanks for joining. It’s worth searching LLL Parts website and you might find the answer there. When you say you ‘want to buy another steering box….’ do you intend to buy genuine VAG, an aftermarket from a specialist reconditioner ( have you contacted any of them?) or a secondhand one? Kind regards, Gareth.

Ad blue problem
Hello John, Apologies for another angle on this where it might be worth you doing a thread search on here for similar issues - well documented as I recall. Of course the verdict will rest with Audi’s assessment. Coincidences do occur, but let’s hope yours isn’t an example of that, and the fault is due to accident damage . However, worth being armed with some knowledge on this. Perhaps you can let us know what happens John. Kind regards, Gareth.

Retrofitting Privacy Glass - one panel won't fit
Hello Jamie, Now sounds that only an absolute side by side comparison between old and new will resolve the difference. It’s probably me, but the tint vs. new glass seems minor-ish - and I can be a fussy devil! Still, you are 3/4 of the way down the line now, and Audi have to sort out whatever the difference twixt the two is. Kind regards, Gareth.

Retrofitting Privacy Glass - one panel won't fit
Hello Jamie, Possibility that the offending door has been changed at some time?? Why the very expensive route of privacy glass rather than tint (to the degree of tint you want)? Kind regards, Gareth.

Bulb warning light issue
Hello Robert, Hope your wife’s health problems turn out to be minor and fairly easily fixable. Best wishes from us folks on here.

Timing belt
Hello Benn, It would be nice to see you return to the forum, and for us to hear your opinion on what advice has been given. It seems you posted your plea on 4th July, and it doesn’t appear that you have returned since that day. Please don’t be a ‘post and run’ member Benn - we do try to be helpful on here, and are happy to spend our time doing that for members. Kind regards, Gareth.

Any of the above any help to you Steve?

A3 8p7 rear light removal
Welcome Jay, Can’t be certain on yours, but there is usually an indented ( partly cut through) piece in the boot side covering near to the back of the light. If you flip this open, it normally reveals a longish bolt which screws into the lamp - be very careful it doesn’t fall down behind the side covering! Once this is out, the light can then be pull out a bit to reveal a plastic sort of ball and socket arrangement to the front end of the lamp. Carefully pull this away from the bodywork to remove the light unit. Probably well worth checking on You Tube for your particular model. Perhaps you could let us know how you get on. Kind regards, Gareth.m

Rodent/Rabbit attack
Blinking heck John. Chewing-mice are devils. We live a bit out in the country, and a neighbour had his motor home fuel supply chewed through, and the same with another vehicle there at the time. Someone told him that to become more environmentally respectful, certain plastics are manufactured from ‘more tasty’ constituents rather than the chemical based plastics that were. The little mices love it! True?? Kind regards, Gareth.

Egr pipe issue
Hello Marc, Deutscheparts on EBay are listing …..CB at £130 odd. You may find CC etc are simply updated part numbers for the same part. On the other hand, they make be an actually modification of the earlier CB, so I guess you take your chance. Kind regards, Gareth. p.s. Maybe worth contacting Audi Parts Direct ( part of Mon Motors - once Cardiff Audi) they have been known to offer a little discount off retail - although, by what I understand from the trade, their discount is now often below 10%. Let us know how you get on Marc.
- No sound, recommendations for a repair service.

Keyless Entry Keyless Start
Hello Robert, Back to first principles:- Was it built with Keyless entry? Answer will lie at your main dealer, if you go in with your V5. Talking nicely with the Parts chap should provide you with a build record for your VIN. I would not attempt this over the phone - needs a visit in person. Kind regards, Gareth.

A5 3.0 Quattro Dual Mass Flywheel
Hello Paul, Welcome, thanks for joining, and sorry to read of your issue. To attempt to answer/ explain some the points you have raised. Is a clutch assembly classed as a (fair) wear and tear item? Yes. Is it unreasonable that a (10 year old) 56K car should suffer clutch wear? - I would say debatable, since this car has averaged only 5.6K/a, suggesting that it has been used on short journeys where the clutch is likely to have been used far more than say an example which has covered twice that mileage on much longer runs - hence it will have worn more despite its low mileage. I’m in the same camp as Cliff, and unfortunately I feel you might have quite a legal task on your hands to make a claim for this, but…… ‘Took it in for a service…’ Where Paul? Main dealer, independent, local garage? Have you sort a second opinion - say at an independent Audi specialist? If not, that would be my first port of call. Are you hearing, or have you heard any noise from this flywheel? Perhaps you could come back to us Paul. Kind regards, Gareth.

Fold Away Dog Guard OEM Audi A6 C5 AVANT Black
Seems daft that it hasn’t sold Steve. Having said that, I offered a new Audi cambelt kit on here some time ago, and no one seemed interested. If I were you, I’d list it on EBay, where you are likely to get more reaction. Kind regards, Gareth.

Used A4 with long list of services but could be a steal?
L.A. - a long way from Essex, and why is your desktop coming up with that? Sounds as troublesome as the car Jonathan is thinking about!

Lion batteries now marketed as Starline???
I must qualify this by making it clear that I’m not certain on this, so please do your own checking and searching. I’ve been told by someone in the battery supply business, that Lion batteries will now be supplied under the Starline brand, so if you are considering buying a Starline battery, you may (in caps) be buying a Lion battery. Whatever, please do your own digging for detail. Kind regards, Gareth.

Timing belt
Hello George, I’ve amended ‘values’ to valves. It’s more complicated than with petrol engines. Have you looked up any You Tube presentations on this ? Kind regards, Gareth.

Thick White smoke
Hello Hugo, If you have read the recommendations mentioned in the posts, and you still don’t know what to do, then your best option is to take the car to a trusted diesel specialist - rather than an ‘ordinary’ garage. Kind regards, Gareth.

Thick White smoke
Regrettably, Jon never did update us from over 6 years ago. Probably well worth following the advice given through this thread, and perhaps you can keep us up to date Hugo. Kind regards, Gareth.

Painting calipers?
Hello Keith, I think a high % of folks who want to do that, do so via. the DIY route. Suitable paints should be available from EBay sellers, or via. a Google search, and I’d be surprised if there aren’t appropriate You Tube videos on the subject - inc. guides on the necessary preparation procedures. Don’t want to DIY it-? Kind regards, Gareth.

Used A4 with long list of services but could be a steal?
Thanks Steve, Very interesting and enlightening background. So it seems my off putting comments ( for this particular example) would be inline with a current ‘knock the brand’ view in the States-? A hello again Jonathan, I can see you have returned to the forum a few hours ago, but are not commenting on the opinion you have received to date. Apologies if my, Steve Q’s and Allan’s offputting views, were not what you were hoping for, and of course, the only view that really matters is the one that you hold - hence my interest in how you now feel about its purchase. Perhaps you could let us know. Kind regards, Gareth.
