They should deactivate once trailer plugged into 12 pin socket. Otherwise sensors should work. Assuming it's all been fitted properly then I'd recommend a diagnostic check to see if any fault codes flag up. If you need a towbar specialist I'd highly recommend buzz towbars. They sorted the wiring on my ford Kuga daily.

Does the replacement unit need coding I wonder? Or could it be an issue with the high pressure fuel pump?

If it's over a month then you'll be unlikely to be able to reject it

Have you had a diagnostic check to see if any fault codes flag up. Worse case scenario is that it'll be an issue with the steering rack
