Winter steel wheel and tyre replacement for 255/35/20’s

Featured Replies

Could anyone advise me on what size of steel wheels and tyres I would need to replace my 255/35/20’s for the winter months? Wheels would obviously need to be big enough fit over brakes and tyres of a size to try and keep the speedo etc correct.

Also any idea where best to source steel wheels and tyres?

Any help much appreciated, thanks.

Hi.

I’m  not exactly an expert on Audi’s...I’ve owned mine for 1/2 day !

But winter tyres ...and my new Audi A6 manual ...

Rim size 7.5jx19 rim offset 33 mm tyre size 235/45

rim size 7.5 jx18 rim offset 37mm tyre size 225/50

I’d  be amazed if the MMI doesn’t have the ability to input your tyre sizes to correct the speedo, but honestly you are talkin 1-3 % so don’t sweat it.

The offset is the key to the wheel clearing the chassis etc.

check whether you have ceramic brakes , if so 19” wheels.

if not you could go 18” .The advantage is the 225 width . It cuts through the snow better and the price and availability. You will get a better selection.

Hi James,

Thanks for the reply, never actually though to look at the manual, no ceramic brakes so planning to get 18's as you say more options and better for the winter anyway. I also found a converter online where you can compare wheel and tyre size options against your standard set up and it tells you if they advise it or not but again as you say as long as you are within a few % it'll be ok.

Cheers again,

Kev

Hi, it would be interesting to see what you go for!

I’ve only had my A6 a month, but I don’t really want to ruin my wheels either!
