Car issue

Hi Folks,
Just wondering if you folks may be able to help with a car issue I’ve been pondering recently.

I have an Audi Q5, 2012 reg, it’s a solid car with a 3.0 TDI engine, largely reliable and easy to drive but lately, I’ve noticed a couple of issues.

After coming back from Scotland after a family holiday, about 100 yards from home I had a message on the dashboard ‘gearbox malfunction’, the car lost all power. It was creeping forward. We’d travelled a long distance and tackled a lot of the Highlands so thought I’d worn the poor thing out!

But the next day, I jumped into the car, no problems. Are these problems harmless and I don’t need to worry about them?

Hoping it won’t be anything serious, but any ideas will be appreciated!

Welcome to the forum David, you'll find the members on here are a friendly and helpful bunch :)

It might be worth you getting a diagnostic check carried out just to be on the safe side. Also do you know when the gearbox oil was last changed? It might be worth you checking the service history to see if and when it was changed.

I believe the oil should be changed at 35k and then every 40k thereafter on the DSG/S-tronic gearbox.

Cheers

Steve

Hi Steve! thank you,

I think it was changed during the last service. Got 114589 on the clock.

You're welcome :)

Well my two thoughts are:

1. For peace of mind gets a diagnostic check carried out at Audi. That way they can see if any faults flag up. Plus they can reset the computer for the gearbox. And if there is a software update required on the gearbox computer then Audi can do this.

2. As long as there are no clonking noises or crunch noises and the gears change smoothly then I'd just monitor it and if it happens again the book it in.

Sorry I can't help more.

Cheers

Steve

Hi everyone,
one more time thank you for the warm welcome. I've been paying attention to this problem and did what you've suggested @Steve Q

Kept a close eye (or rather ear) and I have to say, it feels I hear something unusual.

I'm worried that I've possibly ignored a small issue which might turn out to be a bigger problem now?

Could you guys recommend an automatic transmission specialist?

Many thanks in advance.
