Remote unlocking query

My A3 has an annoying little niggle we cannot figure out. Audi say they can sort it by "investigation" which would mean large expense!

It is a fairly recent fault. The remote fob locks all round the car with no problem.

The nearside door never unlocks on the remote but when the door lock release on the driver's door is used, the nearside door then unlocks. I am loathe to buy a new device without knowing it will fix the problem.

My question is; anyboby got a suggestion?
