Rear wiper motor failure

Bought a new one on eBay and refitted at the beginning of Nov and it didn’t last 3 weeks. They’ve offered a refund but it’s the time to wait for the replacement and then do the refit.

 

What are the thoughts on buying a used OEM?

I've just replaced one I got off eBay, what actually failed?

The motor. Fluke says there is voltage to the connector but it doesn’t turn. Left the wiper blade in the center of the rear glass

Hi unfortunately its one of the hazards of mass production, I bought a thermostat for my mums Fiesta it was a sealed unit they all were, but mine just happened to be the one they forgot to put the thermostat in before they sealed it.

I removed the wiper motor by removing the plastic trim covering the area first (just undo the two screws inside the both handles that could not be seen unless you bend over) and then by pulling the trim backwards. You can easily remove the motor by undoing the three 10 mm nuts, motor connector and thin water hose, after removing the 13 mm nut under the wiper arm. Remember that you should gently remove the plastic cover to see the 13 mm nut under the cover. Remember to wiggle the wiper arm to get the motor assembly from the tailgate.

Place the wiper on the bench. Remove the electric motor from the wiper section in which the gear placed. And, undo the 6 torx screws from the wiper section. You will see water, rust and contaminated grease remains inside other than a worm gear, a gear, and an arm that moving the wiper. Clean everything and lubricate using a thin grease and then reassemble everything. 

It is not complicated job and after fixing the wiper motor, I have been using it for almost two months and had no problem with that.

The Audi rear wiper motor is very badly engineered. The pumped water passes through the gear wheel part of the washer mechanism and because the wiper arm has to move a rotating seal is supposed to prevent water entering the mechanism and eventually the electric motor because once the washer jets block and they will, there is enough pressure from the pump to leak from the seal.

So has any one disconnected the washer fluid supply pipe from the motor and re-routed it to a seperate washer jet installed in a suitable location?

Should be simple to to do, any ideas anyone as VAG seem incapable of a solution!!

Hi you are definitely not the first to realise this and you won't be the last, VAG will continue to deny any solution as you will have to keep buying motor units ££££££, depending on your mechanical aptitude you could use a straight connector and a fair length of washer pipe [cheap] and route it up the pillar under the interior cover using sticky backed pipe clips up to the part by the high level brake lighten drill a hole of the appropriate size and mount a down spray nozzle with a drop of silicone to seal it.
