A5 Reversing camera

Featured Replies

As my ex demo 2019 A5 did not come with a reversing camera, I opted to have one fitted by my Audi Main Dealer who supplied the car, (Rear-view camera kit £650,I really wanted one!)

I have found the image compared to other cars I have owned, including a SQ5 and S3 very saturated, dark and no definition especially objects close by, objects further away seem nice and bright as I would export the whole image to be. The MMI screen brilliance came back from the dealer set to max.

Are there any tweaks to setting up the camera I could try before the journey back to the dealer?

Is it possible to physically move the camera to have it pointing more downward? I ask this because when using my PC on FaceTime if the camera picks up a high window behind me it can give the same effect.

UPDATE!

My A5 was at the dealership recently for its first oil-change. Because of personal time problems the dealer agreed to lend me a courtesy car, even though the dealership policy at this time did not allow for a collection service or loan car. They lent me a late model A4 with a factory fitted camera, what a difference, it was everything I expected mine to be, superb image and brightness.

Asked the dealer why there was such a difference in the quality image to my A5?

He reported that the image on my A5 was different to the factory fitted camera and nothing could be done to tweak my A5 camera to improve the image, and that the kit supplied from Audi was not identical to the factory fitted one.

At this time I am still not sure why Audi can't fit an original camera, and at £650 why not?

Hi Steve

Thanks for your input.

The dealer did fit genuine parts supplied from Audi. When the dealer orders this kit he only has access to a particular part number which will not supply the factory fitted camera.

To put it into perspective, if you have an Audi coming with the Backup camera factory fitted and subsequently have it replaced for any reason the dealer can't get the original camera part, but has to fit the sub standard part.

Just to confirm what the dealer told me I include his quote.

"The reason for the difference in both cameras is solely due to them being two different systems.

The camera fitted from factory is a different camera to the camera that is fitted to your vehicle as a retro fitted option"

It looks as if I am stuck with camera until my next change, and as this will always be a niggle to me the sooner the better.
