Avant Boot - Only opens by key

Featured Replies

Hey All,

I've just bought a new-to-me Audi A4 Avant 2011 and it only has a single annoying issue.

The boot/tailgate refuses to open by pressing the 'button' on the door itself, the only option is to use the button on the key to pop it open.

Read the other similar posts but the central locking option in MMI is already set to 'Boot Lock: Off'. Any idea where I should start with this?

Hi, you mean you unlock central locking by pressing button on drivers door, but boot still doesn't open when you go to physically open it, unless you use your fob?

(i'm assuming you don't have a powered boot lid and need to get out of car and open manually)

So if I unlock the car by the fob (all other doors are unlocked and open) and I go to open the boot I can't open it. The boot itself has a little button which is like a soft plastic you press between the rings and license plate to release the boot but it doesn't do anything.

The only way I can open the boot is to hold the button on the key fob for 3 seconds then it pops open.

Yeah, it's not powered. Just the standard manual boot.

Just to close out the post, took the car to an Audi specialist and they found the rear windscreen washer had leaked inside the door and corroded the wires and connections. They replaced the motor, nozzle and boot release button which resolved it.
