A6 Allroad front wheel bearing

Featured Replies

My 2016 A6 Allroad now has a noise that humming/whining sounds like a front wheel bearing. The car has only done 46000 miles. Is it a common problem or am I just unlucky?

Anyway an idea of potential repair costs would be appreciated.

HI

pretty sure that wheel bearings are known to not last that long on the a6,

Couldn't help with a cost though, mine haven't gone yet.

Just over £200 to get a front wheel bearing replaced by an independent Audi specialist. Mechanic said it was "a hell of a job"

That was the price including parts. Wheel bearing was £43 + VAT

Sounds like they fitted new bearings into your old hub then. Rather a labour intensive way of doing it.

Probably why it was a "hell of a job" 🤨

Ive had many trouble in the past with wheel bearings which usually go in pairs. The cost from a mechanic can vary, but fitted them myself which might be a cheaper option for you if you know what your doing. Its quite simple if you've looked at a few tutorials. The bearings https://www.spareshut.com/collections/wheel-bearings here were the cheapest i found so its at least worth a look.
