My 2016 A6 Allroad now has a noise that humming/whining sounds like a front wheel bearing. The car has only done 46000 miles. Is it a common problem or am I just unlucky?

Anyway an idea of potential repair costs would be appreciated.

Couldn't help with a cost though, mine haven't gone yet. 

Just over £200 to get a front wheel bearing replaced by an independent Audi specialist. Mechanic said it was "a hell of a job"

Does that include the cost of the part Andy? - hub complete with bearing replaced, or just bearing?

That was the price including parts. Wheel bearing was £43 + VAT

Sounds like they fitted new bearings into your old hub then. Rather a labour intensive way of doing it.

Ive had many trouble in the past with wheel bearings which usually go in pairs. The cost from a mechanic can vary, but fitted them myself which might be a cheaper option for you if you know what your doing. Its quite simple if you've looked at a few tutorials.
