Audi A3 red battery light on whilst driving. Steering went heavy then battery went flat, is it battery or alternator?

Featured Replies

Out driving suddenly the Audi A3 2.0tdi 2016 red battery light came on whilst driving. Nothing else happened. On way back home the red battery light came on and doing a 3 point turn the steering went heavy. Then TPMS error came disappeared, then yellow battery light then battery went flat, is it battery or alternator problem?

Car jump started but gone flat again, showing yellow battery light so far

Hello Jo,

Thanks for joining and posting your plea.

You need to get the alternator output checked, together with the battery efficiency ( when it’s been fully charged again).

Halfords should be able to test this for you.

If it proves to be alternator issues then I would favour getting yours reconditioned via. an auto electrician, since there can be some inconsistent quality ones available, which may be cheap to buy, but not so cheap when you pay for removal again after fitting.
Hope some of this helps,

Kind regards,

Gareth.

The battery does not fully charge up to hold charge as it was jump started via jump leads and then went flat after driving and parking.

It's currently flat
