Both full beams not working with “adaptive headlight” error

Featured Replies

Hi,

First post and trying my best to fix this or get ahead of the diagnosis before taking to an Audi dealership later in the week.

Symptoms: Dash error for “adaptive headlight faulty” and “Full beam left and right faulty”

On starting the engine the lights cycle on, with them moving up and down. But full beam and flash don’t work at all. Cornering lights don’t work.

If I push the stick forward to switch full beam on, the corresponding blue light in the dash illuminates for about 20s then switches off.

What I’ve checked:

All bulbs.

Fuses in passenger, driver, and boot. Interestingly the fuse for the RH headlight (adaptive), has a 7.5a rather than 25a. I’ve switched this but no change.

I’ve taken the headlight units out on both sides and inspected all the internal wires and ballast & control units. Nothing obviously broken or wet.

What I’ve not done: checked any of the hidden fuses behind the steering column.

Also I’m unclear on whether there is a headlight relay on this model or if it managed differently.

Any ideas or advice would be very much appreciated!

Cheers!

Paul

Welcome to the forum you'll find the members on here are a friendly and helpful bunch 🙂

I'd recommend a diagnostic check to see if any fault codes flag up. This can be done at a normal garage or independent specialist rather than Audi.

Thanks Steve!

I’ve got it booked in on Wednesday but I’d rather check all the potentials first.

Cheers!
