Hardip Singh Posted May 24 Posted May 24 Hello Neil Our alternator stopped completely so battery didbt work. Rescue service guy charged the battery but it only lasted about 10 minutes at the very most. We only turned engine only to help park in drive way, which again the car only drove for 5 mins, by that time the battery had drained. The alternator wasnt doing anything. Hope that helps. Hardip
Voyt Posted June 6 Posted June 6 Hi, so same happened to me… A7 50tdi 2019, all codes matched the document from previous posts, Audi UK pays for everything. Dealership said that the issue is known for about half a year and I should get back my car on Monday. Buckinghamshire
Deadrich Posted June 13 Posted June 13 Has anyone got experience of having this replaced with TD1 registered? Work was approved then declined by local dealer as TD1 flag detected. I had EGR mapped out earlier this year after spending fortune replacing the intake manifolds. Dealer are saying it’s no longer covered under the 7yr warranty. I’ve escalated to Audi, not holding breath, but wondered if anyone else has had experience in similar situation.
cliffcoggin Posted June 13 Posted June 13 I doubt it Richard. Any significant modification usually invalidates the warranty, whether it is related to the problem or not. For your sake I'd be glad to be proved wrong.
AlexR Posted June 28 Posted June 28 Hi All Had the same issue 5 days ago. Symptoms as listed in the discussion. Yellow ELEC FAULT and a cascade of associated messages along with load-shedding of multiple items such as A/C, MMI,Start/Stop button greyed out etc. Fortunately, I was on my way home. Tried to start the car and but it hardly turned over. Used my NOCO jump starter and that got in running instantly. Given that the battery was flat, I put it on charge and drove it directly to Audi with as many power using items switched off. Managed to cover the 15 miles or so. Having done research overnight, I read up on the 7 year recall and advised Audi of this. They said they would call me after diagnostics. The call confirmed a failed BSG. I also emailed a copy of the BSG Recall Doc that confirmed the no payment would be due. Audi subsequently confirmed that the repair would be FOC. Collecting the car on Monday. Very relieved not to have to pay the bill! My car has the build code 9G8. I think earlier comments suggesting that the MMI or a light should give a warning that the battery is no longer charging. This was always the case on older cars that had an IGN light so you didn’t get left in the lurch. recall doc below: Recall reference R/2020/265 Recall Type Car Recall Date 2020-10-02 Reason for concern MOISTURE MAY ENTER THE BELT DRIVEN STARTER-ALTERNATOR Reason for recall It is possible that moisture may enter the belt-driven starter-alternator. Remedy The starter-alternator must be replaced on the affected vehicles. How to check if the vehicle is recalled Contact the local AUDI dealership or manufacturer. You will not need to pay for anything involving the recall. With so many systems requiring power you would think such a light should be even more important , but the Brussels mandarins who all go to work on a bike do not think so?

AlexR Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago (edited) I think a fundamental problem might be that some dealers will check to see if there is a Recall on a car. By this I mean a Recall that is proactively pushed to owners even if their vehicle is fine. I could be wrong, but I think that some dealers may not realise that there are a number of active Recall items that only become applicable if a given unit fails. In my case the affected part was the MHEV Belt Starter Generator.(BSG) Whilst it should not be necessary, it is worth keeping an eye on what recalls are in place on your car, so that if a relevant fault occurs you can take the evidence to Audi.
