Knocking noise

Featured Replies

Wondering anyone else has had the same trouble an can shed some light.

I’ve developed a knocking noise from the rear of my a6 (2012) c7 saloon. It’s both sides but passenger side is worse. The car is on coilovers which are not very old & I’ve recently had two new rear shocks fitted.

my local garage which I’ve used for years have checked all rear bushes & both top mounts & can’t seem to find a problem, twice now I’ve booked it in & and they not found an issue.

Anyone experienced anything similar? The knock is getting right on my !Removed! & would like it rectified asap!

thanks in advance :)

Don’t think it is, I say knocking, but it’s not like an exhaust knock, it’s more of under load knock. if I’m driving an the pass rear is under load, right hand bend or driving up a bump etc the noise gets worse. Going over speed bumps etc you can hear it but faint. Hard to explain tbh

Hi Lee

Did you get to the bottom of the issue?

I've just had more or less a total rebuild suspension wise on my A6 Avant and the knocking is still there and driving me totally nuts! Been back to the garage and they've double checked it...nothing they can see.

Mine is when I'm about 30-40mph, over bumps etc. Rattles like hell. Sounds like rear passenger side. Garage thought it was more rear driver side but I drive it all the time and not sure I agree.

Hello Lisa,

Lee has not returned to the forum since 1st March, so could I suggest you send him a PM.

Perhaps you could then update us, for the benefit of others.

Kind regards,

Gareth.

I'm having the same issue with this noise. I just had the car jacked up yesterday as I was changing the brakes and ever since im getting this knocking noise from the rear, I've heard it before this but very seldom, but now it's much more noticeable, very annoying and and i can't see anything loose or worn at the rear.

hello colleagues, please give me some advice, I really can't figure out what it could be, it's only heard on the left side under the engine, a rattling noise, I changed the timing belt, oil pump, engine seals, engine covers
