2018 Audi A3 8v Discs & Pads All Around

Featured Replies

Hi there just joined, and hoping someone can offer some help?! Urgently searching for answers.

I have a 2018 Audi A3 8v 1.5tfsi sport back, it’s due a brake change, I got a quote from the main dealer for all corners, pads and discs.. £975!! Eye watering!

My MOT is also due on the 4th (cutting it fine) so I’m going to order pads and brakes myself and do it. Could anyone give me an idea of what the oem parts are? I have had the car remapped to roughly 220bhp but still don’t feel the need to uprate the brakes..

Thanks for joining Anderson,

Have you ever renewed discs and pads before, and on a car equipped with an electronic handbrake - which I take it yours has?
If not, do not attempt it, but entrust the job to your trusted local garage (which just cost you substantially less than the main dealer quote).

What brands of discs and pads are you considering?
Kind regards,

Gareth.

Hi guys, thanks for the welcome.
haven’t changed brakes before on this model. Did however do it on my mk5 golf.. traditional handbrake on that model and As suggested my 8VA has an electronic handbrake.
Spoke to mechanic friend from VW today he’s sadly too busy for home jobs but he said the front axle can be done without the vcds or similar. The rear axle however cannot.. 🫣

With that in mind I’ve ordered an Xtool A30M on his recommendation this will allow for the EPB to be reset etc.

with regard to brands I of discs and pads I’ve been looking at Mintex, TRW, Mtec and Pagid. Im told Pagid are considered the best at present, mintex second and the dealers recommend TRW..

so any help would be appreciated..

Hello Anderson,

Opinions will vary greatly -  from spending extra on Audi pads since your labour is going to be free, to any of the ones you have mentioned, and many more.

I certainly would not use Mintex based on my experience of last using them  on a Rover Cabriolet with rapid wear despite new calipers. Once one of the most respected brands, but now…???

You mentioned Pagid, so I wonder if you are looking at ECP as a supplier-? I seldom use them for parts, and prefer to use Parts in Motion, and some other EBay suppliers who have given me competitive prices on quality brands, and overall great service.
Worth trying P in M.
I’m currently ‘experimenting’ with Brembo pads and discs on a family member’s non - Audi to good effect, so I currently favour those.
Hope some of this helps.

Kind regards,

Gareth.
p.s. Do you have a wind-back tool for the rears?

Hi all,

received the diagnostic tool yesterday.. malfunctioning of course. So bit the bullet and booked in with an Audi specialist. £545, disc and pads all around using pagid again on their recommendation. They will also do the MOT at the same time.

I guess I have to accept it this time and learn for next time.

thank you for your suggestions and help however.
