Knocking sounds from the engine

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I hope that someone here will be able to help me identify the problem. I’ve an Audi A5 2013 3.0 diesel. The engine runs smoothly however a knocking sound started from inside the engine. I’ve stopped driving it and the cars at the mechanic. We’ve tested the fuel pump and that’s 100% also no metal parts in the oil filter. I’ve attached a video of the sound. Has anyone here come across this issue ? We are still yet to check the chain.

Could it be a damaged crank, or bearings etc?

What does the mechanic think?

Only way you'll know it dismantling the engine. But from the sounds of it, it could be a big bill.

Work in progress… engine and gearbox has been taken out. Timing chain looks to be 100%. Mechanic is steering towards an oil pump. There’s oil in one of the injectors.. waiting for further updates. This is as far as we got so far.
