I can't part with my Audi

Featured Replies

I have an Audi A4 cabriolet S line FSI 2L with a 56 plate. It has, without the shadow of a doubt, been the best car I have ever had, and I have had a few. I have had it since new and driven around Europe and it has given me no trouble until now, at 187,000 miles. The engine management light appeared and the garage have replaced the purge valve (dont really know what that is) and sensor, as a result of what the diagostics told them. But it is running like a tractor. It chugs along, I cant get it above 30 and it won't change up. The garage say that it needs further diagnostics but I just know that, and the possible remedy, will cost more than I can afford and well more than the car is worth.

I love that car and can't bear the idea it will end up in a scrap yard. Does anyone have any ideas as to what I can do to give it further life, if not for me, for someone else?

Welcome Peter.

To some extent, I think you have answered your own question, by saying that the car hasn’t given you any trouble over its 187K miles. This equates to not having had to spend too much on it to date, but now it’s catch up time, and it needs some funds spent on it wisely (in caps).
So if you scrap it, what are you going to do for on going transport?
Of it were mine, I would be search out a trusted localish  Audi independent and seeking advice there.
Perhaps you can come back to us with an answer to the question.

Kind regards,

Gareth.

it so frustrates me when i read so many times about a garage diagnosing something and it still does not fix the problem.note the garage says( according to their diagnostics) to cover themselves.🤕

You logic is right. But I don't need the the car, I just enjoy having it. I guess I need to get specialized advice as my garage has clearly given up

I think the important decision is whether to keep it and spend on it, or part with it, or indeed just park it up and look at it! Obviously, you are the only one who can make that decision - we cannot do that for you.
I think I have given you a workable way forward if you do decide to keep it.

Please let us know what you decide.
Kind regards,

Gareth.

It seems my beloved Audi will live to drive another day.

All that is wrong with it is the fuel injector sensor. Nothing wrong with fuel injector or the ECU, just the sensor.
