Drivers footrest removal

I never use the footrest, and it only serves to catch my shoe to prevent me from operating the clutch pedal. 

Before I remove it for ever, I wondered if anyone knew if there is carpet underneath the footrest?

I found out why my foot kept catching on the footrest. The footrest screw was missing and the cover had become loose, thus fouling on my trainer.

A new screw is a much less painful solution than cutting your foot off.
