Headlight range control system fault

You'll need a diagnostic check to see if any fault codes flag up. Could be an issue with the ballast

You're welcome. If it is the ballast then this can be changed but might need to be coded in.

Range control is the level sensors on the front and rear lower control arms, easily damaged when working on suspension, I snapped mine so 3d printed a new arm from an A6 all-road air suspension sensor.

They can also go bad when the abs sensors break.

I got my level sensors changed but I think it’s more to do with coding. If coding don't work then its definitely the ballast . Im taking it to the garage to get it checked.

hi guys,

I just went to the garage and they gave me this reading from diagnostics.

C108515 55 - HRA: Left headlamp beam adjusting motor Open circuit/ short circuit to B+

any ideas on how to get this repaired?

The garage told me possible the whole headlight need to be changed.

You may need check the wiring and the connectors for water ingress, not easy because it's tight. 

You could possibly get a picture of the inside by removing the road wheel, arch liner access and disconnecting the ignitor.

Or remove the unit from the car to check it.

I put it on water that's got in somehow and is bridging the contacts.

Get the part number and buy a second hand headlight to see if that cures the problem.

Initial problems - DRL gone yellow, Headlight range control fault with one of the headlight

Guys ordered a new aftermarket Headlight, headlight range control module, ballast, all fitted.

Just found out one of the headlight was not adaptive! there are two types of headlights one without adaptive and one with adaptive!

Will be ordering a new adaptive headlight which I believe it costs around £500!

I think this this is the reason the car was initially showing headlight range fault in the first place.

However after changing the level control module under the steering wheel , the fault has changed from headlight control fault to Adaptive headlight Fault!

I could've just left it with the non adaptive headlight with the fault codes on (with DRL fixed) but the main headlight beam is facing downwards on the new headlight and cannot get this facing the road.

All this back and forth with the garage and costing me dear. :(

Chances are the headlight is made by Hella. The original OE Audi version will be double that. Even if you're going after-market, then I'd opt for Hella. No point having adaptive headlights if they don't work.
