Air suspension

Featured Replies

Hi folks.  I have a Audi A6 bitdi 2012.  Had the front and rear arms replaced and knuckles replaced. Picked it up and now drives really hard, feel every bump etc.  Obviously going to take it back but any thoughts on what has caused that.  Clearly they have done something wrong.  I have been researching and some say on changing suspension parts you have to recalibrate it.

So 2 of the hight sensors where faulty. I had all 4 replaced for new as i'm wanting to keep the car so going to change all as i go along......wish me luck but i truly love the car.

Anyways, had it recalibrated etc but given a day or so goes back to what i would say, safe mode and feels hard.

Now at an recommended independent Audi garage, last fault stated, basic settings required, got the car back, all ok but then again the next day went all hard.  I'm using a VDS tool and showing now Headlight range fault.  120589- Function restriction due to other fault modules  U1113 00.

Obviously going back to the garage just shouting out if there's an obvious route to go down.

So far he did a basic setup on what was at fault.

I'm thinking and tell me if I'm wrong, to perform a calibration because of having all the sensors changed.  Am I right that just changing one sensor you have to perform a calibration.  The garage before is where I always taking my car for 35 years but they admit they they don't know what there doing with air suspension etc.

Like yourself, I'm thinking it's a module......but which one 😔

If I remember correctly Audi released a service bulletin for problems with the relay on the air compressor pump, gave instructions on removing relay cover and checking for burning or arcing that gave intermittent faults so might be something worth looking at

Yes a calibration would be required if a sensor is changed, it ideally would be performed after changing suspension components as new bushes can change how the car sits slightly and a part of the calibration process is inputting ride heights for each corner

Awesome, thanks for that.  Will put that forward to the garage 👌

That would now make sense as ever since I had arms changed it always ran hard.  It was a garage that I have been with for 35 years but things have changed there and they admitted they don't no what to do with this car.  I have now moved to a Audi independent garage, that has been rated highly. Time will only tell.  Wish luck 🤞

All bolts that pass thru a control arm bush should be torqued to spec with the hub at the same height it would be if it was sitting on its wheels to improve ride quality and prolong life of the bush, wouldnt expect a major difference in suspension stiffness but worth getting slacked of and retorqued if in doubt
