Jamesy256 Posted Thursday at 06:45 PM Posted Thursday at 06:45 PM Home from work early, beautiful day so decided to take the s3 out for a spin. Pulled out of a junction 2nd gear pull and car immediately drops power, stays in second and gearbox malfunction comes up. Limited performance. Turned off and on and it reset. Seems fine on higher gear pulls but same issue happened again twice when setting off. I do think the shifts are a bit rough sometimes now. I did the usual reset of the mech unit the other week too. Anyone have any issues like this. Car is stage one map but gearbox standard. Would this have an effect ? Thanks
cliffcoggin Posted Thursday at 07:05 PM Posted Thursday at 07:05 PM Is this the same car you asked about in https://www.audiownersclub.com/forums/topic/28800-gearbox-issues-s3-8v/#comment-116099 and failed to update the forum as requested?
Jamesy256 Posted Thursday at 07:21 PM Author Posted Thursday at 07:21 PM It is. Sorry I forgot all about it. I removed r600 air intake and res delete and it solved the issue last time. It’s been running fine ever since until today.
Steve Q Posted Thursday at 07:46 PM Posted Thursday at 07:46 PM As per my previous advice it definitely could be the megatronics unit. You could try and get the gearbox oil changed to see if that helps.
Jamesy256 Posted Thursday at 07:52 PM Author Posted Thursday at 07:52 PM Il book it in for a warrenty call. And will remember to keep the forum updated. Bad timing as I just put the car up for sale. Drove an rs3 yesterday and planning to upgrade
Steve Q Posted Friday at 05:11 AM Posted Friday at 05:11 AM Fingers crossed it's covered under warranty 🤞 what are you planning on upgrading to? 1
Jamesy256 Posted Friday at 05:37 AM Author Posted Friday at 05:37 AM Went to see a 2017 rs3 sport back. The car was a bit of a mess. Headlights badly fogged up with only 37k miles on the clock. Rear discs and pads needed replaced also. So walked away from it although it drive perfect. That engine is magnificent. So depending on outcome of my issue we shall see.
Jamesy256 Posted Friday at 09:26 AM Author Posted Friday at 09:26 AM Will do. It’s going in next Wednesday
Jamesy256 Posted Friday at 10:23 AM Author Posted Friday at 10:23 AM Me too lol. Getting the remap removed on Monday morning so I’m hoping if they dig a little deeper that they won’t be able to tell
Jamesy256 Posted 5 hours ago Author Posted 5 hours ago Quick update on the gearbox issue. Mechanic told me to disconnect battery. Reconnected after half hour and to be fair the gearbox shifted seamlessly then went back into fault from 1-2. I’ve just got the stage 1 remap removed today and no issues at all so far. I’m wondering if the ecu map has caused this as I didn’t get the tcu done. It’s now booked in on the 7th to get looked at anyway. It’s so slow tho.
cliffcoggin Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago It would be interesting to know if that provides a long term solution. Do please let us know.
Jamesy256 Posted 3 hours ago Author Posted 3 hours ago Well that didn’t fix it. Just took it for a drive. Would hold gears at redline and not change up for a second or so then sometimes in manual it wouldn’t shift up. Had to press paddle twice. Then 1-2 again it went into malfunction. Think it must be the mechtronics if that’s what u call it

cliffcoggin Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago Mechatronic units can be troublesome after a few years causing symptoms including erratic gear changes. Apparently they can be repaired by specialists at a fraction of the cost that Audi charges.
Jamesy256 Posted 3 hours ago Author Posted 3 hours ago If I drive it easy it should be fine until it goes in. Not to the 7th of July now so will keep yous updated.
