A3 Sound Deadening / Insulation (Road Noise)

Featured Replies

Hi All 🙂

Just purchased a 2024 A3 black edition with the 19 inch wheels and getting a fair bit of road noise in the cabin on certain surfaces.

Wondered if anybody has had practical experience installing sound deadening / insulation that reduces road noise?  Perhaps inside the front wheel arches either on the metal body work or on top off the plastic wheel arch liner itself? (dunno which would make the most difference, if any.)

FYI - I have covered the boot in silent coat 2mm and closed cell foam and think that's had a noticeable difference that side of the car.  Front wheels seem to be the main culprit now affecting my rather OCD tendencies :-)

Before going to the hassle of taking the wheels off and removing the wheel liner, I thought I'd check with folks here as I'm sure I can't be the only one who's thought about doing this!

Thanks in advance.

Rob.

Welcome Robin,

I’m sure there was a thread (a couple of months back?) where someone had insulated an A1 to try to reduce what may have been tyre noise. Worth a search.

Regards,

Gareth.

There has been similar cases.

Make sure any sound deadening you're planning to fit in the wheel arches is water proof. Otherwise it'll trap moisture and rot the wings from inside out.

You'd be best putting it on the bulkhead underneath the dash and footwells.

No probs. Audi's and other vag cars of the 90s/naughties suffered from this as foam was put inside the wheel arches and this would trap moisture causing the rigs to rot from inside out

Also try quieter tyres next time around.
