Gearstick Shaking/Vibrating

Featured Replies

Hello,

I am new to the forum and I have just purchased an Audi A4 2017 2.0 Ultra Sport at the beginning of the week. 63,000 miles on clock.

I have noticed that the gearstick is shaking/vibrating excessively whilst driving.

When the car is in neutral and in idle it’s fine.

The shaking is more prominent in gears 3 & 5 and I am curious is this common in these models or is it indicating an issue?

Any advice/guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi its the gearbox rear mount which is cheap enough if you buy aftermarket say Febi, classic signs are if you accelerate hard the stick moves back and when you decelerate without braking the stick moves forward, fairly easy to change if you have a four poster ramp and gearbox cradle to support the weight of the box when changing.

Steve.

Thank you for your response. I purchased the car with an additional two year warranty which will cover any issues. Furthermore, I would expect the dealer to look into this for me.

I have a good video of it however I think I’m unable to upload this to the site.

From my research a few have proposed similar thinking to yourself.

I can’t say I have noticed the gearstick moving forward and back as such in line with acceleration. It just seems like excessive movement and it’s annoying considering I only picked up the car on Tuesday AM.

Hi if its not that type of movement I described the other culprit would be the gear linkage on the side of the gearbox as this relies on nylon cups running on the metal ball joints on the mechanism, these wear and make the gear change sloppy thats why audi sell a repair kit.
