A few quick questions

Good Morning Everyone

Having sold my A4 which had the constant need for an oil top up (By the way someone has now put the car back on the road which has must have cost some money) i now have my black Audi A3 saloon.

I have 3 questions

  • My mechanic recommends putting in higher octane unleaded so as not to block the injectors and improve performance, how often should i do this - every time or every other time ?
  • I think my car is front wheel drive so when i am clean the alloys why are the back wheels so dirty ?
  • What does anyone recommend cleaning a black car with to achieve the best results ?

Many thanks for any help that i receive

[1] Nonsense. Just use the grade of fuel recommended by the manufaturer.

[2] The wheels become dirty mainly with brake dust. Whether the wheels are driven or not makes no difference, every wheel has a brake which gives off dust.

[3] Use soapy water for cleaning. It works on all colours and all cars.

I always use E5 (Premium) fuel in my car and my motorbike. According to the Govt modern engines are supposed to be OK with E10 but they also said Diesel engines were the way to go and look how that turned out! For me, it's not to do with performance but Premium fuels tend to have better detergents in them too.

What is the bad news that has turned out with diesels?
Obviously your choice in using fuels beyond recommended by the manufacturer?

Incidentally, how often does the car get used?

Having subsidised diesel car purchases, diesels are now a bit of a pariah, with London pretty much banning them. Diesel fuel was cheaper than unleaded, now it's more expensive. Diesels that don't meet RDE2 standards are taxed higher than other diesels or their petrol equivalents.

Yep, my choice to use E5 fuel of course. I just don't think I trust E10 until a few years have elapsed to find out how it really affects engines, fuel lines etc.

I'd guess I do about 6000 miles a year in my car - I drive it at least once a week. I also have a motorbike which I prefer to use, weather permitting and that does another 6000 miles a year.

E5 for my Bike and Car, Why drink Fosters when you can have Stella...
