New tyres

Featured Replies

I need to put 2 new tyres on my A1 1.4 TFSI Black edition, should I put them on the front or rear?  The existing 2 tyres are approx 50% used.  Thanks

Hi Mark, many thanks for your post.  This concurs with discussions I have just had with various tyre fitting companies and I think the recommendations are quite compelling.

Many Thanks

Welcome Allan,

On the front. What brands are you considering and what is the brand of the 2 50% worn ones?
Regards,

Gareth.

Thanks for your welcome Gareth.

this topic certainly splits motorists down the middle however, I am inclined to follow the recommendations from Mark M and Auto-Expess but thanks for your prompt and considered reply

Regards

Allan

I am almost convinced by this, but only almost. I'd like to see confirming evidence by an independent body like the TRL before I fully change my mind.

Tbh, you could google "new tyres on the front or rear" and I'd say 99% of the results will say put them on the rear. It's what I was told in the old days when I was learning to drive.

Absolutely Allan - it’s great to consider all opinions.

Just one question:- what happens when the front end breaks away then?

You didn’t mention what brand you are intending to buy.

Regards,

Gareth.

That's just plain and boring understeer that's easily fixed by letting off the loud pedal a smidge.

Hello Mark,

Fit new to back? ‘…….its what I was told in the old days when I was learning to drive’.

Was that in the days when the majority of cars were rear wheel drive?

Late 90's so I'd say majority front wheel drive. I was certainly learning in a front wheel drive Corsa

Certainly feels like the old days to me 🤣
