My Audi just cut off while driving on motorway

Featured Replies

My Audi just cut off on Saturday without any warning. The car just cut off at round about and has not started since. What could it be? Its an automatic gear box

Welcome Timothy,

Sorry to hear of your issue ‘ cut out while driving on a motorway’ , ‘…….cut out on a roundabout….’ Not really making sense!
Anyone looking at this car will want to know - diesel or petrol, were there any previously episodes, any warning of anything just prior to it cutting out this  time etc.??
Next step for you will be getting it plugged  it in to diagnostics and getting fault codes.
Please let us know how you get on Timothy.

Regards,

Gareth.

Thank you for your reply Gareth,

My car is petrol, automatic, 1984cc,

it did not have any warning lights or any previous issues. What I meant by cut off is; the car would not start/stop automatically and it asked me to start it manually but that did not start the car either so had to cal recovery. The car will be looked at this morning.

It was so strange as I did not have any warning lights on the dashboard. Thank you again,

sorry if did not provide enough details it’s my first post on here and this being my second. Thank you again

There was a Lady on this forum a while back now that had the same issue. I never read a comment containing a resolution but it looks like it was around the fuel rail pressure sensor or cam shaft(s) position sensor. The thread went off on a tangent looking at battery health and management but I do not believe this. I had a similar issue (resolved itself) running the car in eco mode where the auto gearbox goes into a coast mode  and at low speed the engine stops without entering start / stop mode. This is effectively a stall and needed the start button pressed once the car is put in neutral or park (Will not restart in drive).

Thanks Timothy,

I sounds you are in the most capable hands going forward.

Would you be kind enough to let us know what happens.
Many thanks Tom for the valuable input.

Worth a try Timothy?
Kind regards,

Gareth.

Hi everyone,

this is the diagnostic code that came on the car after plugging;

P305400 starter doesnt turn , mechanicaly blocked or electrical malfunction

the mobile mechanic had a new starter but he advised the car does start because some is blocking the engine from doing that, he saying may be a DMF piece have snapped and could be the one stuck between  engine and gear box.  Mechanic also tried to turn the engine manually and he saying it only turn so far then there is something blocking it from turning fully.

I don’t like cars any more 😂😂😂😂

That's worrying because it suggests mechanical damage rather than an electrical or fuel problem. Are you sure the mechanic said manual turning was completely blocked?

I think he said manually turning it was ok then it get to a part where he can not proceed because there is something stopping it. He suggested it could be a part of DMF broken and stuck between engine and Gear box. I will know more with time. I am worried as well but hope it’s something like timing chain, or some kind of sensor.

If that is true then it would be unwise to attempt to force the engine to turn for fear of causing more damage. It seems some dismantling of the engine is going to be needed. The timing chain is likely the easiest place to begin, though it will still be a big job. If that does not reveal the problem, then sump and/or gearbox removal would be the next step, followed by the head. Will you do the work yourself or get it done at a garage?

I can not do the work myself. I wish I could but I don’t have the mechanic in me. The garage will have to do the job. One of my friend mentioned about the timing chain. I hope it’s something that has snapped off gear box like DMF then causing all the problems. I am gutted. I feel like have lost my freedom.

Hello Timothy,

Um, doesn’t sound good unfortunately.

Trying to think of things which might be less frightening, and a stuck starter motor comes to mind, longshot, but…..

Am I right in believing the car has only done an unbelievably low mileage around 28K?
Regards,

Gareth.

Hi

The car has done around 61500 miles and it’s 2013 plate.
