A5 B10 ehybrid delay

Featured Replies

A5 B10 Edition 1 ehybrid saloon

I ordered the above vehicle in June this year and it went into production in Aug (all good at this point), after manufacture it then transitioned to the port prior to transfer to the UK in the last week of Aug.

As per process, the vehicle undertakes a further quality check prior to shipping, and I was told two weeks ago that at this stage it takes between 2 to 3 weeks to clear and be shipped out and delivered to the retailers showroom.

Here's the bombshell, the dealer has just notified me that there is a 7 week delay, as further quality checks are required.  This means it will have been in port awaiting export for 9 weeks.

The cynic in me thinks there are two reasons behind this:

  • Someone has cut in and the vehicle has been delegated to another purchaser (which would explain the 7 week delay to manufacture another vehicle),
  • The vehicle sustained damage at port and repairs are required, in which case I'm not paying £60k+ for a patched up car (but how would I know)

I can't believe 9 weeks is normal practice, unless a fundamental issue has occurred (as explained above).

Am i being overly dramatic?

Fear the worst and hope for the best. I expect there has been an issue found in the model, not the individual car. Rather than release many out to customers they will hold onto them until this issue is resolved and handled internally.

the $1000 question is how many have been sold and delivered? Anyone?

Any update on this? I have one on order also, current delivery end of October/ early November;

No, they have still not come back with any confirmed date.

All I know is that it's still in Emden "and may be scheduled for delivery in week 44 (end of October), but this could change "🙂

They will not confirm a date or why it has been delayed!!!!!!!!!!

Car was completed and left the manufacturing facility at the end of August, so will have been in port for 9 weeks; even then it has to be shipped and prepped.  So I'm hoping to get it on Christmas Eve!!!!!!!!

I've just picked my new A5 avant hybrid. It was built July8th and went straight to German port and cleared customs. It sat there for approx 7 weeks. Then suddenly it was at uk port! I was very suspicious of the delay but don't know why it occurred. I posted my suspicions on another A5 forum,

I rang the dealer yesterday and he confirmed there is no update!!

My order came off the production line at the end of Aug (ordered 27th June), so I should assume (based on your timeline) to receive it sometime around December?

Agree, I don't understand why they can't give an indication as to the reasons for any delays, especially when they are parked up at Emden for extended periods.

I have a VIN and number plate. Does that mean it's in the UK?

Sounds like it Mark.

Have you had a look on the on-line DVLA Vehicle Check?

I have, it isn't showing anything yet.

However I got a call late this afternoon from the dealer supplying my car. It's being delivered to my door on the 29th!

Any luck yet Mike?

The last notification I received indicated that the vehicle may be released in week 44 (w/c 27th Oct), and to be fair to the dealership, they can't tell me any more.

As mentioned previously, I rang the dealership on Monday (13th Oct) and they are at the mercy of Emden who will not provide any information, other than a forecast date for release.

Car has been in Emden (for whatever reason) for 8 weeks and counting!!!!

I get there are always delays in this process, I really do and I've no doubt there's a genuine reason behind it.

Would it be too difficult to be notified of the reason for any delays and kept updated on a robust delivery date?

Can Audi customer service help?

I asked this question and was informed that Emden won't release any information to any party, whether that be the buyer or dealership.  If the dealership can't ascertain reasons for any delay, I doubt Audi UK would fair any better.

Got to be worth a try. I'd be chasing them if it was me. Especially when you know deliveries are being made.

Let us know how you get on either way Mike.

I’ve decided to cancel the order as per the T&C’s agreed with the dealership.

I contacted the dealership for an update on the vehicles forecasted release from Emden (forecast was week 44) and they couldn’t provide any indication as to its status or provide any further information, the vehicle has been at Emden since 25th Aug and Audi can’t or are unwilling to confirm the cause.

As I write this, the vehicle has been stationary at port for 10 weeks and there’s still no indication as to when it may be released.

I’m really disappointed in this situation; I was genuinely excited about getting hold of this car but the protracted nature and lack of information has frustrated me beyond belief.

If I was going to take ownership of the vehicle, I would forever be concerned as to the root cause of the delay and I’m not willing to proceed on that basis.

Would it be too onerous to ask Audi to keep their customers abreast of any issues that may delay their purchase, it’s a common courtesy that should be at the forefront of any sale!

I’ve had 2 x Audi A4 Avants and an A5 over the last 15 years and I feel my Audi journey has come to an end!
