Audi main dealer price match on servicing?

Featured Replies

Hi, anyone had any joy with getting a Price Match from Audi on servicing costs ( i.e. to match a better price you've got from a local independent etc. )?

Presume it might be simpler seeking this on just an Oil Change Service - as that rules out lots of the 'inspections' in the Oil change with Inspection)

Think the general terms are:  that its a like for like service - so you need the Indie quote to specify they'll use audi oil and filter etc., and be VAT registered, with particular tax code to show it is from a 'proper' garage  - not a 'mate'

Tried local Main Dealer here  - only to be told the servicing prices on their website are a 'price match'.

When I said this seemed confusing, given I'd not submitted  any quote for them to try and 'match', and the price match process is outlined on the main Audi UK website  - I was just told they have already 'price matched', and went into detail about how their work was by Audi trained personnel.

I get it is a dealership's choice if they want to offer a price match ( as per the way it is set out on Audi UK main website ) , but bit surprising / frustrating to get what seems dippy feedback.

I don't think such a thing exists in the motor trade. You get what you pay for, which at an Audi dealer means a comfortable chair, free coffee, and an obsequious clerk at the front desk; while at an independant means a lower bill, no chairs, no coffee, and often a chance to talk to the man who actually did the work. I prefer the latter.

Yes, totally agree😄 ( you missed off choice of biscuits! ) - getting to actually have a conversation with the mechanic is gold dust.

Though front desk staff at the main dealer were absolutely exemplary - friendly / cheerful / helpful.

I'd have thought getting a price match is a physical impossibility. Typical marketing ploy. Once you factor in genuine Audi parts, then their labour rate of £190 an hour, you're on a hiding to nothing. You can still use genuine Audi parts (most are produced by other manufacturers) with Audi stamped on it, such as Mann for air, fuel and oil filters), TRW or ATE for brakes, etc.

Spartacus -  ( are you still doing the gymnastics? ) yes agree it seems very very unlikely that Audi won't just wriggle their way out of it😕,

but the price match is on Audi UK main website, as well as some main dealers websites - so surely someone might have got it agreed🙂

Maybe we should have it as a forum challenge?😄

Thanks Tim,

We spend thousands of £s to buy even a secondhand car, then we spend valuable time shopping around trying to save relatively small amounts of money to maintain it.
One thing is for certain, marketing folks are paid good money to entice us to spend our hand earned on their employer’s products and service, and price matching is one of the older gimmicks. They are also good at coming up with get out clauses - that good, that they would get under a snakes belly with a top hat on!
Regards,

Gareth.

Well done that man, I have been banging on about this for years, what is this obsession with main dealers, there ought to be a name for it, if you can't do the service yourself find a good independent, they are just as good if not better a lot of the time, at least if they get a stumped problem they will tell you without all the we are waiting for a master technician B@ll@cks, they don't possess any, I would say over the years there are guys on this forum who could run rings round them, educate yourself on the type of service parts used on your vehicle, there is even a step by step guide on how to service your model on YouTube, other than than that leave it to the garage they don't use rubbish parts as they don't want  you back until the next service and provided you don't  fall for the myth of extended service intervals it will be all good.

Steve.
