Q5 2025

Featured Replies

Car purchased May 2025, numerous faults illuminated on dash Engine management ligh, hill hold assist. Car would only run on battery the other day until it cut out. 10 minutes standing turning off - on engine fired. Alarm goes off at random. Vehicle speeds up when in adaptive cruise when traffic is slowing. Burns excessive oil. Asked uk Audi to respond to Engine management light but they refused. Many owners with similar problems are using consumer act 2015 to return vehicles. I’ve given my formal rejection notice to reject the car.

Q5 went to start earlier today. Dash lit up with numerous error messages, then the car shut down completely. All doors and the tailgate locked themselves; only the rear passenger door would open.

Audi Assist was called. On arrival they tested several possibilities. As a last resort, they carried out a 12-volt battery reset by disconnecting both the positive and negative terminals and leaving them off for 10 minutes. After reconnecting, a jump pack wasn’t suitable, so booster cables were used to start the car.

Once running, diagnostics were attempted, but the vehicle requires an Audi access code to allow the diagnostic tablet to connect to the car. When access was finally gained, the system showed 124 error codes.

Worth flagging to anyone considering buying these vehicles later in life: access to diagnostics can be restricted without Audi authorisation.

Almost unbelievable Andrew, but unfortunately true. I really hope you get a fair outcome with this.

One question that comes to mind is - what about the poor unsuspecting who is going to end up as the second owner of this vehicle? Not your concern, but you have to feel equally sorry for whoever that might be.
Good luck with sorting everything out, and it would be great to hear of the outcome.
Regards,

Gareth.

I completely agree. These vehicles should be categorised in a similar manner to accident-damaged vehicles. Such a classification would help ensure that new models entering the market are genuinely fit for purpose, or that manufacturers bear the financial consequences of shortcomings rather than transferring that risk to consumers.

In our case, this purchase was intended as a retirement gift. We deliberately chose to buy new and paid a premium for a so-called premium brand on the assumption that reliability and quality would be assured. Unfortunately, that expectation has not been met.

Given that my wife is undergoing cancer treatment, reliability was not a luxury but a necessity. At present, we are relying on alternatives such as Uber, which is far from what we anticipated when making a significant investment of £68,000.

Sorry that you have had such a bad experience - my new Audi was a tad troublesome but I cannot fault Audi for the the way they have supported their product since I took ownership. There were a number of bugs in my car's software that an update has resolved. That first impression counts and I must admit I had doubts about my initial decision to purchase but with all things brand new there is a risk. Mechanicals work, that is a given. Electricals around emissions, safety, hybrid and driving assistance can be temperamental. That is not the reserve of Audi with people I know having issues with JLR and Ford Hybrid and Electric models.

Previously owned an A4 TDI 177 Quattro Black Edition for over 12 years — hands down the best car we’ve ever had. Economical, quick enough, and this was a brand-new model at the time.

It needed a couple of updates over the years but was never an inconvenience. Our local garage/MOT station actually bought the car from us, and the only fault code present at the time of sale was something related to the radio.

He still has the car and uses it regularly, which says a lot. That’s exactly why we chose to buy another Audi.

Collected my 2025 Audi Q5 TDI from Leeds Audi at 16:00 today after they’d had the car for three days.

Unfortunately, by the time I got home the Engine Management Light had returned. I’ve also now lost voice activation and the head-up display navigation.

So for anyone wondering, KD2 has not resolved the engine management light issue on my car.

It’s going straight back to the dealer again tomorrow morning. Pretty disappointing after three days in the workshop.
