valuation advice please on audi 80 Cabriolet

Featured Replies

hello,

Would you be able to give me a rough valuation on my 1997 Audi 80 Cabriolet 2.8 V6 which has 128k mls. on the clock. I am trying to get a sense of what price to pitch it at for sale.

I have spent a considerable amount of money on it over the past 12 yrs and maintained it to a very high standard. It is in good condition for its age as it has ben winter dry-stored every year and only taken out on dry days in the summer months. It has covered less than 3000 mls over the past 12 years. And for its age the body is immaculate with a new hood fitted in 2012. The cream leather inerior and carpets are all in good condition.

Could you give me some price guidance for this limited edition? Just an idea would help.

Thanks very much indeed,

Phil

Hi how long is a piece of string, apart from Car and Classic I can't suggest any other person that would be able to advise.

Steve.

I fully agree with Steve. Nobody in their right minds would value a car without seeing it and driving it. Even then there is no altering the fact it is 29 years old, has a large engine, and limited availability of new parts, factors which will reduce its appeal to buyers.

This is how my mind works as I'm always buying cheap MX5s, tinkering and moving them on at no profit

It's like all 'classic cars' If its in fantastic condition you can try to find a collector of older cars. Who may pay £3k to £4k.

If it's averagely worn then get it 12 months MOT and sell it to someone willing to take a punt on a summer fun car, say up to £1500 or settle for half that.

You might have got a less vague answer if you had posted a picture of it showing its worst/best features and Reg No so people could check MOT history.

Good luck

Hello Philip,

Winding the clock back some 4 decades, I wanted to pass on an immaculate Morris 1000 which had covered less than 10k miles. I asked an auctioneer what he thought it who fetch - reply’ whatever someone will write a cheque for today, which will always be different from what it will be tomorrow’.
As Stevey Y says ‘how long is a piece of string…?’
To boil down your description, the car had done 125k miles before you had it, and that could deter Classic Car enthusiasts who generally look to buy low mileage examples. The plus points you mention.

My guess is you must have an idea of what you would like to get for it, and if it were mine, I would list it on EBay with a low starting figure and reserve that would satisfy you, and see where it goes.
Car and Classic would be another site where you could auction or advertise it.
Perhaps you could let us know how you get on - hopefully it will find a good home.

Regards,

Gareth.

Appreciating the forum hasn’t been able to give you a definitive figure, but has given you some pointers.

Could you please let us have your comments?

Regards,

Gareth.

Been away from home unexpectedly, so thankyou, I've requested a valuation from Car & Classic that was helpful to my enquiry     Phil
