Water in sills - 2007 cabriolet

Featured Replies

Thanks for letting me join. I promise not to ask and run.

Had the old girl since 2009. She's been good to me. The hood looks a tiny bit tatty and I had to reseal the glass last year, but it seems sound. I had a wet carpet last year but had the channels under the battery cleared and that solved it. She won't fit in the garage and I normally cover her for a couple of months in |Jan and Feb but need to use it this year.

Sadly after recent heavy rain I can hear water sloshing in the sills. I think just the passenger side. Apart from a couple of drips on my knee in the drivers seat from the top of the window frame there's no sign of ingress.

I understand I can probably drain the sill by removing the under wing protection near the base of the A pillar and pulling out a bung but I'd obviously like to find the cause:

Rear retracting quarter glass seal?

Is there a channel down from the front screen frame?

Boot? - the rear light clusters are always damp but it seems more like condensation. Left rear indicator failed at same time.

I've tried Googling and asking around but there only seems to be mention of under bonnet blockages.

Has anyone experienced water in sills and found a cause ? Or can suggest areas to look?

TIA

Mick

I’m looking for the cause/ prevention not just draining the water that collects

something must be blocked

there must be drainage tubes or Chanels

Hello Michael,

I think Steve is at least being progressive in his response, and it could just be me thinking your response could have been less dismissive, and more appreciative.

Let’s hope someone else can offer you the more meaningful advice you seek.

Regards,

Gareth.

I had already explained that I knew how I could drain it

I didn’t  criticise Steve, just reminded everyone I was looking for a cause

i do find it hard to believe that after a eeek of searching I’m unable to find diagrams or details of the drain Chanels - those before the sills- that are probably blocked
