Is it possible to tell if a car is mapped?

Featured Replies

Without having dealer level equipment, is there way to know whether my car has been mapped?

I have OBD 11 but that doesn’t offer me any information. Is there a serial number or a version number or something that I can look for that will allow me to know for sure if it’s been mapped?

I’m not sure if it’s relevant, but it’s a 2018 SQ7

I did do a search on this, found over 200 results, read through them and couldn’t find anything about people who didn’t know that their car was mapped.

I don't think so unless the software being used can detect if the adblue system or dpf have been mapped out from working on a diesel for example.

Adblue is sadly still there as it’s causing me issues, I wonder where I stand insurance wise not knowing

Well as most people would never know if a car they bought had been mapped or not then surely you have plausible deniability or similar?

As I suspect if a car has been mapped prior to your ownership and it were to be crashed then I bet insurance could find out when it was mapped by a date stamp of the ECU override if that makes sense?
