Metal “Glitter” in Oil filter found on service on Q7.

Featured Replies

Hi, just had my Audi Q7 2020 TFSI serviced & on inspection of the oil filter there was quite a lot of metal Glitter fragments contained in it. I’ve been advised that this requires the engine to come out to see exactly what the problem is as there’s a number of areas of the engine that this has come from. Is this usual for the Q7? I’ve done 96,000 miles. Thanks for any help you can give.

It's not normal for any engine to shed a lot of metal particles unless it is very worn, which I would not expect after 96000 miles, so it's probable that the engine has to be stripped to find what is disintegrating. That's going to cost thousands of pounds unfortunately, and may not be economical. Are there any symptoms that may help diagnosis such as smoke, high fuel consumption, loss of coolant, unusual noises, poor performance?

Hi, there’s no sign at all, running smoothly & that’s why I am concerned that when I pick it up, not sure how long before there’s signs.

Many thanks for your help. Just gutted as I so love the car but being pragmatic I think there’s only really one solution, but I’ll give it more time.
