I bought a replacement radio unit online and it went in ok but I need to send it back and the keys they sent are not hooking on. They worked to remove the original radio. I have tries other keys to no effect. Can anyone advise how I can remove the radio please?

You'll find the members on here are a friendly and helpful bunch :) 

It's odd you can't get the radio out after trying to different sets of keys. You probably can gain access by removing the climate control module. In failing that you may have to take your a3 to Audi or a vehicle radio specialist.

I've tried to.find a video on how to remove the heater controls but without success. Sorry. But looking online I was incorrect and the radio has to come out before the heater controls come out anyway. So it's irrelevant.
