  1. Apologies for the gripe, but the forum has recently suffered from a spate of what can be termed ‘Post and Run’ new members, who seem to think it’s perfectly acceptable to post a plea for help, and simply not return to view the help given. In a more diluted form, help is offered, but is very rarely acknowledged even via. a simple press of the Like button, leave alone a posted Thank You. The last part of the gripe is that we frequently have to ask for additional information, and this extra detail often never materialises. Please remember, everyone who posts replies do so without payment, but it certainly does cost them in time - in terms of the Moderators and Admin back up - a lot of time. So a special plea to all on here who post needing help:- please be respectful enough to acknowledge any help given, rather than simply accept it as a no-cost, no time of yours, free advice service. It’s wearing thin folks, so if you want to retain this service, please respect and acknowledge its benefits. Thank you all for reading this, and above all, agreeing to adhere to the respect that is needed to be shown. Kind regards, On behalf of the Moderators. Please note:- This request is to all members, not just new ones. p.s. Please avoid using non specific locations such as U.K., England etc. etc.
  2. Hi Everybody I suppose you can guess my name... We have just bought an Audi Q5 TFSI e S line with Tech Pack Pro. Really happy so far with the 35 miles covered so far. Haven't got a piccy on this laptop to share just now, but will do later. Previous car just traded in was an Abarth 695 XSR. It had suspension made from granite, we only covered about 500 miles a year since 2019 as K, my wife suffered Osteoporosis, 11 fractured vertebrae and a loss of height. Driving on the roads of East Lancs became a nightmare. We are very hopeful the Q5 will alleviate some of this. We get the charging point installed at the end of the month from Octopus so am looking forward to some very economical miles in the near future. I am sure ( I know) we will have some niggles and issues (it is a very tech car) that others have had and already resolved, so with any luck, if I ask questions, I won't be treated as a numb head and our issues can be resolved with friends advice. All the best and look forward to chatting soon. Andy

Info about DAB+ What Is The Difference Between DAB+ and DAB? DAB+ is a further development of the DAB standard, thus assumes all functions of DAB, but offers additional benefits. The technical difference is the type of audio coding, ie the two standards use different methods for the preparation before and after the transfer of data. While DAB uses MPEG-1 Layer-2, DAB MPEG-4 HE-AAC v2, the most efficient audio compression used worldwide. Also found this on another forum: "It seems most of D1 national has now gone to Dab+ which means the audio on the channels is now He-aacv2. This unfortunately means head units with old chipsets cannot decode the new audio. Our Audi A1 is affected but not the A3 (both 2018). The A3 can decode the new audio so is ok. There is a chance audi dealers could charge £140 if you take the car for inspection when in fact there is no fault. The problem is D1 going to Dab+. Have just contacted Bauer and they have confirmed the switchover of the channels. Other Audi models affected could be Q3 2017 or anything before 2018 with a head unit that has cd sd dab combined which is installed in the dash rather than separate units for dab etc."

I took my car in to the Audi garage today, then scanned all of the equipment, and said there was nothing wrong with the car. They said the problem is basically what others have said on here, that the D1 stations have moved to DAB+ and the older cars do not support this. The said there is nothing they can do to resolve this. I even asked if there were any DAB+ hardware upgrades I could purchase, but they said there were no options available for this. At least the didn't charge me for the diagnostic checks, and I got my car cleaned, so every cloud.
  6. Hi, can anybody offer an alternative to the current setup in a 2013 8V. My son wanted to have carplay and touchscreen. We tried an aftermarket from China that had good reviews but that is where the good stopped. Screen resolution changed for original MMI, sound issues, poor & non working (aftermarket) reverse camera. Its going back so looking for alternatives and ones that people currently have in their cars now. He is considering going larger on the screen to 10.25" loosing the retraction. Any help appreciated
  7. And if you don't want to do the job yourself, take the car to a body shop. Anything except an Audi garage.
  8. Why would you bother to get Audi to do the work? I could understand if the car was newish. Buy yourself a used door off eBay and fit it yourself, less than £100 all done, pocket the rest to make up for the hassle.

Morning all, I'm very glad I found this thread, as I am having exactly the same issue and have been pulling my hair out trying to resolve it and thinking, oh no here comes a big bill! I will be following this closely and good luck Mr Smithers! 🤞
  11. Sorry to be blunt Bill, but that is downright foolish. However it is your car, and your money that will be wasted when the gearbox is wrecked.
  12. Speak to Audi direct. It will be GL4 or fully synthetic GL5. Takes about 2.3 litres, probably 75w-90. Always release the fill plug before releasing the drain plug. On the subject of bushings, any knocks or clunks, deal with them here. Usual suspects are upper arms, drop links and ARB bushings. Fit Meyle HD or Lemforder. Budget for a full set of winter tyres. Can recommend Kumho WinterCraft tyres. As recommended, change your antifreeze. Timing belt is due every 60k miles or 5 years. Include water pump, tensioner pulley and genuine thermostat. No fun braving a winter with a dodgy thermostat. Headlight conversion kit too.
  13. Perhaps you could pretend to be cool and trendy by perching them on top of your head. Sorry, I could not resist.
