Does anybody else get frustrated when people post a question, get suggestions and then never come back with a follow up to say how or if the problem was solved? Surely it's only good manners and it helps people with similar problems.

Andrew/Dave. Both problems sound very like limp mode, which can happen without any warning lamps lighting up.

Totally agree Kevin, it's my biggest gripe on this and other sites where people go out of their way to help others only to be met with silence, and it's becoming increasingly common unfortunately. Maybe it's just me getting old but I find myself having to bite my lip more and more often rather than having a rant online. I brought my kids up to say please and thank you as an absolute minimum when dealing with people but it seems that we and others here who give up their time and knowledge in hope of a simple "thank you" are a dying breed. I remember when I first left school an old guy I worked with telling a rude customer who wanted a favour that you catch more bees with honey than you do with vinegar, and another that said if someone thinks they're helping you out and offers you a bucket of s*** to smile and say thank you, you can always put it on your roses or give it to someone else who needs it. That said, I'll keep giving advice where I can as I appreciate the thanks when I get it and it's nice knowing you've helped someone out.

It could well be the wastegate and maybe its become free. Mine juts happened with no prior warning at all or symptons. I've got an OBD 11 reader and it's pretty good to be fair it allows you cycle through everything and watch live data so may be worth you getting one. Ive had 3 garages plug mine in and it always the same fault but as I've changed the MAF and MAP they are stumped and basically refused to look into it anymore ! Fingers crossed it doesn't happen for you again. A good "Italian Tune Up" may of fixed it 😀 Ive got to the point where I just want to find it regardless of cost. Then I can move forward. Its had the recall on the injectors and loom so hoping it's not them. I did and still kind of think maybe contaminated fuel has blocked up pump or injectors. Going down the rabbit hole though thinking of anything and everything !

I don’t want to come over as being patronising, but I must say that this thread has been a breath of fresh air, and I must say a big thank you to Kevin, and all those who have taken time to respond and to press the Like button. I’ve used so many examples to try to describe the effect on those who help and are rewarded with zilch. As I understand it, we will now be adopting a more softly softly approach before issuing Warnings, and as Sgt. Wilson would say when giving orders:- ‘Would you mind awfully?’ OK, I will try that approach, but could I be excused from thinking it will end up as effective as giving a pig a table napkin? but…. Hi Gary Great to hear about this good outcome. However, it seems the responses from dealers are not in sync. IMHO, it should not be like pulling teeth to get to the correct result and customers should certainly not have to educate some dealers about the 7 year warranty.

Yes you have excessive pressure in the crankcase that is blowing the oil out, and it is nothing to do with the filler cap. The usual cause is the EGR (exhaust gas return) valve being blocked. A less likely cause is more blow past at the piston rings than the EGR can cope with, though that would give other symptoms such as smoke and poor performance.

I feel the same. Its like something is telling the car not to not accelerate but after 1500rpm runs fine. The fact that when the the MAP sensor is unplugged its ok is making me think communication from the MAF/IAT is out. Trying to get as much info possible before I dig any deeper on parts.

Cheers buddy. Mine has been like it since it first happened. I drove about 150 miles countless resets and still the same. I've just stripped the EGR cooler today in the hopes a good clean would resolve but still nothing. Checked all vacumn hoses and solenoids they seem ok so onto next job. My ambient temp sensor has been on the blink since I had the car 2 years ago. Goes from-20 to 40+ depending on its mood but has never gave me any issues as thought that it just controls the A/C but after some research today maybe its telling the IAT its too cold so the ECU is altering the air/fuel mixture. Maybe wrong but trying everything. If I ever find the reason I will.make the whole Audi community know about it as it seems like a common issue but with so many variables on what can cause the sames symptoms. Any others ideas or knowledge I'm all ears.

Hi Andrew, I've had a similar problem twice now, but I'm pretty sure both times were caused by over revving (stereo on, talking to wife, going a bit mutton) when joining a dual carriageway and pushing too hard in 4th so I'm wondering if this is a possibility in your case? First time I nursed it home about 20 miles as I had the kids in the car and didn't want to risk not being able to restart the car after stopping. Symptoms were basically no power like you, but even at higher revs, it felt exactly as if someone had removed the turbo. the water temp, oil pressure and temp were all normal and no smoke from exhaust so I took the chance and got home ok. Had something to eat and let the car cool down then went to investigate, no oil or water loss, so I tried starting the car and everything was fine. Second time a couple of months later the same thing happened but this time I pulled over at the first chance, turned off the ignition and started it again pretty much straightaway and again the problem was gone. Obviously this hasn't worked for you but the problem sounds so similar I'd be interested to know if you cure it as I feel it's only a matter of time before it happens again. Update: Car went into Glasgow Audi last Thursday for a diagnostic. After an anxious weekend and a few phone calls to them, I finally got an acknowledgment from them on Tuesday regarding their awareness of the extended warranty, (which was a relief as I was foreseeing a conversation with them regarding what I found on here and where it would go) however I got a call on Wednesday that they were awaiting approval from Audi UK ensuring the failed part no matched the faulty BSG and got told yesterday it was and that it would all be paid free of charge under the warranty. Thank goodness. Thank you soooo much to everyone on this forum and in particular to Mark2 for his contribution and making people aware of the warranty otherwise this could have been a costly repair at my local garage with a 2nd hand or reconditioned part. The power of forums like this is brilliant. Thanks again everyone.

Always nice to hear from a fellow Gareth!! when i saw the weather forecast for this week and weekend i knew i had to get a purchase done - glad i did and with a few trips planned this weekend, i'm looking forward to it. i'm not a typical marketers audience as i tend to do what i want but fair point re the structural build (although how different is the S5 to the RS5 structurally) i think the carplay is first on the list as not being able to play spotify when i can in my kids car and my aging BMWx5 is frustrating. cheers Gareth

Frank. I really can not believe 3/4 of a tank in 15 miles without badly affecting performance or generating enormous amounts of smoke. That equates to about one and a half miles per gallon if my arithmetic is correct! To my mind either the fuel is leaking at a considerable rate, which I am certain you would see, or the fuel guage is wrong. My money is on the fuel guage. I don't know easy it is to remove the sender from the fuel tank and replace it with a new one, but that may be the quickest way to prove the point. Ideally I would want to drain the tank then add a measured quantity of fuel before driving it until the tank is empty, but that's not really a practical proposition.

Hi you can buy an adjustable dipstick from e bay, I have one myself.it does a number of engines. mine is a FRANKLIN PT NO AT31111. there are also others, if you go on eBay, and type in (genuine audi engine oil adjustable dipstick)‚ you will see it, (it has a small chain attached) hope this helps Brian.

Hi, I'm looking also, I'm thinking to get one from ebay and make marks on the dipstick myself going in what the display says. I know this is not what your looking for but would solve the problem of having to wait and mess in the settings. Also if the sensor ever goes faulty then at least you know the correct level. My Audi dealer has told me they don't exist so maybe you will have to make do with an after market one.

Hi Steve and thanks for the info mate. I was sort of leaning towards the original as I don't like to make things difficult for myself if I can help it so you've helped make up my mind. I noticed the fans too which I thought was weird as it seems to be at odds with everything I thought about LEDs. I thought they ran loads cooler and lasted way longer than regular bulbs, I'm guessing they're being pushed to their absolute limits in this application? Anyway, thanks again for the info and the tip about the whiter light, every day is a school day! Dave

Hello Alun, If you ran the battery down just ‘playing with’ the electrics, then it’s quite likely the battery is well past its best, and no longer able to support a stop/start facility. Yes, I understand the battery will be c just 4 year old ( and now out of warranty), but this vehicle is likely to have been caught up in the Covid issue of lack of ‘chips’ and might well have been sitting around for months - bad news for batteries. If it were mine, I would drive it around to a Halfords store and get the battery efficiency checked, before doing anything else. With respect to your wallet - again if it were mine- I would not be getting a new one at Halfords - just come back to us with the outcome. If the battery is serviceable then we can move on. Many thanks Kevin, Indeed, frustrated, fed up etc. of spending valuable time offering advice to those who just can’t be ‘rectumed’ to even bother to return to read the responses let alone acknowledge them. That was the basis for my ‘New members please read this’ post. It seems it is no where near adequate to minimise this behaviour. A point ponder:- Salesman concluding PCP deal with Audi buyer. ‘I think we’ve managed to include all the option packs available for your model’ ‘Do you want the optional manners pack Sir?’ ‘Nah, can’t be bothered with that’!
