  1. Steve, I have done similar with my S7 and relied on guidance from easily accessible websites that ask you for your original set up together with your proposed set up, and then show you the impact that the change will have on clearance, speed variants, etc. etc. I found these sites invaluable and have now completed my upgrade and all is fine. Give sites a try like: www.willtheyfit.com or www.thewheelcalculator.com
  2. I'd forgotten about the bag of silica gel crystals that afflicted some cars. Thanks for the reminder Steve. The point that Steve was making is that if crystals have been released into the coolant they will prevent the thermostat from closing, which would explain your symptoms. If that is the case it will be a devil of a job to flush them from the engine and radiator. Search Youtube for videos explaining the problem and what can be done about it.
  3. If that is the only disc that rusts then the brake caliper is not working properly. Get it sorted out before the guarantee expires.
  4. Well coolant must be circulating, but I am blowed if I know how. Let's hope another member has some ideas.
  5. Alex, If your car is in regular use and is not modified or highly tuned, I think using E10 is probably fine and would make little or no difference to the cars performance. However, if your car goes into storage or is off the road during the winter months, then using E5 is a better bet. It contains less ethanol than E10 and ethanol creates condensation which over time can damage fuel lines and potentially cause corrosion in the fuel tank. Hope this is useful.
  6. Will do Gareth. Happy to help anyone that needs guidance. In the past I have imported many cars from the USA as well, so I have experience that I’m willing to share. I will put up a few pictures later of the car James
  7. Let’s not assume the ticking noise is catastrophic. To be honest, sounds like a diesel in winter. In my experience a well maintained 2 litre TDI doesn’t use oil. It very much depends on history to date. Get into habit of doing oil changes every 8-10k miles. I’d scan the car with VCDS obviously just to see what’s going on. I’d also drop the engine tray to see if it’s dry as a bone. Any oil staining will show up quite quickly, such as leaking sump gasket, rocker gasket or sump plug. When was the timing belt last done? On 2 litre, then 60k miles or 5 years, changing water pump and tensioner pulley. Noise could very well be tensioner pulley, or indeed a worn bearing elsewhere. Check condition of auxiliary belts too. Under engine cover, any evidence of fuel or oil staining?
  8. That's good to read Andrew. Please spread the word about the need for coding. Good luck in finding the power drain.
  9. Didn't realise yous were waiting... sorry.... turned out the coolant leak was the valve right in the v, luckily my cousin had recently opened his own mot station and garage so he took the job on. It is alot to strip, inlet manifold, throttle bodies and egr removed, cleaned while they were off the car as only 70k miles and they were almost clogged with black carbon/gunk..... and i only use premium diesel and majority of my driving is motorway, both short journeys..... wouldn't have thought be a cheap job to a stranger but I paid quite alot for that job and that's family, good days work to strip and rebuild, without the extra time I spent at his garage cleaning the inlet manifold and egr valve, which I doubt would be a normal part of the valve change?
  10. Until you take the door cards off and investigate the wiring, which as you say is known to be troublesome, you may be wasting time and money looking for more elaborate and expensive problems. Occam's Razor should be applied here, which says the simplest solution is usually the right one.
  11. Hi Gareth I managed to get the email address of a man who works with Audi Tradition/Auto Union. He has literally just sent me a letter from Audi Germany confirming date of manufacture 😊😊 Thanks again VIN is stamped into the inner wing area.
  12. As you'll have a year warranty on the work carried out I'd recommend getting it back to the body shop and speaking to the insurance company
