  1. I took a previous car in for tyres after damaging 2 in a pothole, found 1 wheel not only buckled but had a 2” split in it too! No reliable fix for that sadly. But luckily found a pair of 2nd hand wheels in good condition as spare was space saver of course.
  2. Couple of folks have said that Audi can activate if it was standard fit but not switched on from build/delivery. Not sure when they started fitting as standard, suspect it was much later.
  3. Delivery & Reg date was nov 2015. So guess build was mid 2015 ish.
  4. I’ve thru the list of functions on Carista, no mention of figs with sidelights or car play. anyone know if these are even available?
  5. That’s quite impressive. Didn’t know anyone could straighten Alloys!
  6. One of the reasons manufacturers used a torque converter auto with high power engines is that the manuals and twin clutch boxes just cant handle the power, the box becomes the weakest link in the drivetrain. So id think carefully before doing this, the auto boxes are reliable if previous owners have been religious about the 40k oil changes, if not, the box fails, often around 80-100k miles, sooner if they have a heavy right foot. May I ask why you are looking to change it over? I put a Ford Cosworth Granada 3.0 v6 - ( about 240 bhp) into a sierra many years ago, (common mod at the time to replace the standard Ford 3.0 v6 - about 150bhp), auto only in the Granada, manual boxes used with it in the sierra never lasted more than about 6 months, even the steel cased high power custom built ones, costing around £5k so I just bought cheap 2nd hand boxes for £50 and swapped them out when they fell apart! Being RWD or 4WD, swapping was an easy job even on the drive!
  7. Hi there, I recently found a partial list of very useful Vcds mods that activated some handy functions (like remote close for the rear lid) and many more. Since lost the link after my iPad needing restarting🤦🏻‍♂️ what I was looking for though was the bit about having foglights (all weather lights) on with sidelights. (I have foglights ready to fit, if I need to use them then I Really dont want to have the headlights on at the same time. Sort of defeats the object! currently the fogs will only come on with headlights, so glad I’ve not needed them since buying the car. Does anyone know of a full ‘how to’ last showing what changes are needed n Vcds to activate (or deactivate) various functions? Also, has anyone found out how to activate android auto / apple car play. Apparently later A6 were fitted with the relevant MMI systems but those functions weren’t activated within Vcds unless the option was specified at build. all and any info gratefully received! cheers All Doc
  8. The fuse box lists are great but what I don’t understand is why do so many systems, eg; Seat heating, have so many fuses in different fuse panels? it doesn’t make any sense to me at all! anyone got any (sensible ones please) ideas? cheers all Dave
  9. Does anyone know where the seat heating control units are please? I suspect they’re in the seats but don’t know for certain. im also trying to find wiring diagrams that show the ‘in car-off seat’ wiring for the Seat heating, ventilation & massage functions. I suspect it’s just supplies from fuse panels for heating & ventilation to either the BCM or the HVAC control unit and that the massage supply is the main seat 12v supply, so not extra. However,! I was pointed towards the ‘vladgur.comk site for wiring but while very useful, it’s not easy to search! cheers guys
  10. I had it it checked by a non-franchised specialist. It’s fine. he said if/when I can hear a rattle on every start (there’s none at present), then spend some money. apprently the tensioner is very sensitive to oil level. Mine was half way up the (software monitor) indicator between max & min. Topped up and no sign or sound of any rattle under any condition. (Start, hard acceleration etc). quote was for £2,300, which seems fairly good value as the online ‘garage job guide’ software said £2,700 for labour alone! so no further action apart from back to standard weekly oil checks.
  11. Yeah, can imagine, they did say that there are a lot of single use components in just doing the chains, tensioner and guides, apart from all the seals & gaskets, things like stretch bolts etc. apparently the parts would be over £1k to start with. but when it does get, I’ll also get the common water leak bits done too, that just makes sense as it’ll be accessible at the same time, so 2 birds. One stone. still very annoying though, just wasn’t expecting these sort of problems at 62k miles, partly why I bought the car! Hey ho!
  12. I only get a minor rattle under harder acceleration, normal urban acceleration is ok, just when you give it a little bit more when joining faster traffic on the M’way etc, It only lasts for a split second, almost not noticeable. It’s fine on start up & starts with no issues. I’ve spoken to a local Audi specialist, they think it’s either; the chain, the tensioner, 1 or more of the plastic guides or all of the above. it’s going in for them to check/confirm next week, If it needs those changing, apparently it’s a 2 day, £3k job! Which is more than a bit scary. To say the least.
  13. Syntax, it’s meant to say that the guy that reported the same fault had previously, for an unrelated issue, as well as the fault appearing had previously had the chain replaced. reflecting what he’d done, not something I’ve done or that he did as a consequence of the fault code.
  14. I haven’t had any timing chains changed, that was someone else on here. This code popped up in a remap pre-check. So I can’t proceed with the remap until this fixed. car only has 62k miles on it.
  15. It’s in the title, which didn’t come across!🤦🏻‍♂️
  16. Fault code 21583 - Loss of crankshaft synchronisation. the cars a 3.0 tdi (218ps) S-Tronic. Hi folks, anyone come across this before and know what causes it? It’s intermittent too. there’s one other post I’ve seen with that code but no resolution. That guy had also just had the chain & tensioners replaced. other code that comes out is P191A 00 (096). Have no idea what that means either! cheers Dave F
  17. I’ve had worse noise from chains on various previous engines, including a Cosworth V6 Sierra & a V8 Allroad, I sold that after finding out the cost of replacing those 4? Chains but it was then sold on by the next 2 buyers over 5 yrs without the chains being changed. if it was a belt I’d have had it done by now! I was an engineer before retiring, we quickly found that chains are very forgiving of a bit of slack in an enclosed guide system, open ones not so much though!😏 Knowing Audi though, I’m assuming there are plastic chain guides that need replacing too?
  18. Oh, forgot to mention, it’s officially only done 62k miles, is this issue coo on at that mileage? although it was a company car for the 1st 2-3 yrs of its life.
  19. No, that’s ok, the rattle has only recently started and only when under higher acceleration but I’m quite sensitive to anything changing (old habit from my engineering days, you get used to looking/listening for anything different!). so I’m not overly concerned about a catastrophic failure being imminent but yr right it does need sorting & preferably soon. do you know if these engines are single chains, duplex or triple? Not seen one in bits before. cheers
  20. My engine (3.0 v6 diesel) has thrown up a crankshaft (synch?) fault code when it’s Interogated and I’m getting, what seems fairly clearly to be, a cam chain rattle, implying that either the chain has stretched more than the tensioner can handle or the tensioner has/is failing or both, I’m also guessing that a chain issue could cause the crank synch issue. Has anyone had, or heard of similar issues? And the likely fix/cost🥺 are my assumptions in the right ballpark? cheers Dave
  21. Do HID headlamps slowly lose their brightness over time? I know Halogen lamps deteriorate quite fast but don’t know much about HID lamps at all. Yet! My cars now 7.5yrs old, halogen would have out by now. Wondering if it’s worth replacing and, if I’m replacing, is it worth the extra to upgrade? Any thoughts? cheers Dave
  22. Do you access the dipped/main beam lamp from under the wheel arch on the A6 C7? thanks
