Help to value my car
I honestly cannot see why you don’t simply take the car to a couple of local bodyshops and get sensible estimates. If I was you, I’d snap the insurer’s hand off and just retain it and sort it at your leisure. To not do so would be plain bonkers. Regards, Gareth.

Help to value my car
Thanks Ranjit, So regrettably, now you realise that whatever figure you put in the value box, it is meaningless, and Market Value will apply. Are you considering perusing the possibility of buying the salvage and getting it repaired? Kind regards, Gareth.

Help to value my car
Welcome to the forum Ranjit. Sorry to hear of your issue and the understandable outcome. Perhaps you will allow me to offer my comments:- You don’t tell us the current mileage or anything about its service history and the fact that it hasn’t been garaged over the last 10 years. However, answers to either of these isn’t really going to affect the overall value of the car to a great extent. I would have thought that a valuation of £2,330 is erring on the side of ‘ you cannot really complain at that for a 21 year old car’. You say you have it insured for £5,000 so can you confirm that that value was agreed ( in caps) when the policy was taken out, or was that a value figure you placed on it? If the latter then that is meaningless, and ‘ Market Value’ will apply -which it does. Why not contact the insurers for a figure to retain the car and you then organise an independent repair? Perhaps you could let us have your comments on the above. Kind regards, Gareth.

Wheels
I would lay the cause of this at the car wash facility if this incurs any degree of power washing, and particularly if acid wheel cleaner is used - which it seldom isn’t. I you continue to get the car cleaned by jet washing it, the next problem you will encounter will be milky patches on the paintwork where the pressure washer and chemicals used, degrade the lacquer. Kind regards, Gareth.

Diffuser spray pain
Hello Saj, Sorry to say it as I see it, but from your answers I don’t feel you are currently informed enough to end up with a favourable and lasting finish. Apologies, but if your friend has a bodyshop, why don’t you just entrust this job to him, but observe what he does so that you gain some experience of the correct procedure?

Diffuser spray pain
What grit paper are you intending to use to prepare the surface?

Diffuser spray pain
Brands? Equally important is the actual nozzle design. If it has a simple pin hole hole rather than a slotted jet, then you are not going to get a good spray pattern out of it. You could try Simoniz - think they have a slotted nozzle. What preparation have you done?

Diffuser spray pain
Hello Saj, Don’t expect a ‘true’ black colour from any spray can, they will always turn out to be slightly on the brown side. If you are attempting to match to a black car, you will need to get a can mixed to the colour of your car - a match to the listed colour code. As with all spraying - detailed preparation is king. Kind regards, Gareth.

Rear parking sensors
Unlikely to be the module. Probably one or more sensors at fault. It’s one out - all out. As said, diagnostics will pin point which one. I changed one of mine about 18 months ago, but same issue has returned. Faulty EBay one, or another one of the originals??

Buying an Audi 80 cabriolet
Welcome Sean, and thanks for joining. I think you need to be realistic in your requirements when buying a 26 year old car. If it has some service history you will be lucky, if it has anything like a comprehensive history that would be exceptional. How mechanically minded and experienced are you? Have you actually seen the car. Have you conducted an MOT history on the car? Are you buying from the current owner, and if so, how long have they owned it? I’f buying from a dealer or classic car specialist, are you expecting to have a guarantee on the car? Have you considered having the car inspected by a local-to-the-car Audi specialist? Perhaps you can come back to us Sean. Kind regards, Gareth.
