  1. Past hour
  2. Thank you for your comment Cliffcoggin. I'm a chartered engineer and I think I understand the situation. I fully realise that a proper solution is an engine rebuild with the later piston design but yours is an extra-ordinarily unhelpful comment for a £2000 2009 car. What I am looking for is merely to mitigate the situation, not a proper cure. I remain optimistic despite your gloomy comment and hope that others out there are more knowledgeable and helpful.
  3. Hi all, just taken delivery of 2025 A5 sline, anyone help with how you can change the indicator feature? Many thanks, Gerry.
  4. Yh I see now quite a niece example of a 2 L u had there same as me and what I’m looking at getting but auto dsg 5door
  5. Today
  6. poxy site wont allow linking to imgur 😁 should be working now... as said, bought at 80k sold at 150K in better condition than when I bought it 😄
  7. In that case we need to find a way to diagnose the fault, which is going to be nearly impossible just on written descriptions. Perhaps the best way forward is to get a diagnosis on a different machine. Code readers differ greatly in their abilities.
  8. Ahh won’t let me look at them I guessing it’s pictures
  9. Thanks sorry I didn't say it's diesel. Guess it's a diagnosis I will have to book it in for
  10. I had it tested a few months ago it was fine
  11. One possibility is a failing battery. I suggest you get it professionally tested. Do not rely on a simple voltage reading to indicate the state of health of the battery, nor should you rely on its starting ability. If the battery proves to be in good condition we need to investigate other possibilities.
  12. Diesel? You didn't mention diesel until now so I wrongly assumed the fuel was petrol. Diesel does not suffer from pre-ignition so your problem lies elsewhere. Incidentally diesel, being a longer molecule, is measured by decane rating. As far as I know only one grade of diesel is available here, except for the anti-waxing additives in the winter.
  13. Ok, I’ve just dropped it off to the mechanic. I’ll update this thread when the car is back and I have had the opportunity to check if the new thermostat has resolved the issue.
  14. Hi guys i was hoping you could help me with some info on this issue i have been having lately. One day after i made around 1000k plus km when i got onto the autobahn i did around 200 , and suddenly limp mode happenend , which it never happened before. It completly cuts the turbo and some good amount of power but it only happens over 140 km/h , it is random because some days i hit 180 and it doesn't trigger limp mode. I was thinking it could be some turbo issue.
  15. Thank you for your Advice. Off the top of your head do you know what octane level the diesel should be?
  16. Hi there , I have a BV auto apple car play system is anybody is looking for one £50 it came out of my A6 C6 2006 message me for details
  17. Hi There I have removed my 12 inch android screen and returned the car to standard as I have sold it and bought a A6 C8 ,so I have this going if anybody is interested it was £750 happy to to let it go for £250 it still has the screen protector in place and its no use to me now message me if you would like more detail
  18. For a little while some of the TFSI engines were notorious for extremely high oil consumption. As far as I recall they required re-designed piston rings from Audi to solve the problem. If yours is one of those affected engines then nothing you can do by way of additives or treatments will help. Doubtless that is why the previous owner sold the car. Sorry, but I believe you have bought a lemon.
  19. Hmm. I had the rear shocks and coils replaced a few weeks ago. Much better at the rear, but not that much better at the front. I've played with tyre pressures, lowering them to a smoother ride, but that made little difference to the body roll at the front. Could it be a bad sway bar or something? Thanks, Alex
  20. 2009 Audi A3 Convertible 1.8 tfsi Sport with 125,000 miles. I recently bought this on a summertime whim knowing it had high oil consumption but it's even worse than the seller claimed. It's only about 200 miles per litre. The car runs beautifully and seems to be about as powerful as it should be. Fuel consumption about 38 mpg. It doesn't leak, doesn't smell and I've not seen any smoke even though I've driven mostly with it open so I'm at a total loss about where the oil goes to! I've looked at dozens of posts and videos on the net and it seems to be an incredibly common occurrence with all sorts of car engines and, for the Audi TFSI engine, it's most likely either a duff PCV or gummed up oil control rings. Receipts show the seller had spent a lot the last few years on repairing leaking seals and, in particular had the 'oil breather valve' replaced by a new one at enormous cost a year ago. PCV When I take off the oil filler cap with engine idling there's no blowout of fumes and the engine pitch changes very slightly. I THINK this means the PCV is OK but if anyone can suggest a better test other than trial and error replacement I'd like to know. Oil control rings Otherwise I'd appreciate any advice out there about oil treatments. I've just learnt about Forte Oil Fortifier which you just top up with for about £15. It's the simplest and cheapest but does it really do anything? At present I'm planning to carry out a long cylinder soak for 2-3 days using Berryman B12 - I've ordered two x 440 ml containers intending really to only use one. I'll follow this with an oil/filter change using Liqui Moly Proline engine flush and refilling with Mannol Elite 5-40 high ester oil. Any suggestions, advice and comments on this plan would be very gratefully received! BTW I recently posted about my passenger door lock problem and this is now all sorted thanks partly to the help from this forum.
  21. My 2008 3.0 q7 tdi has had issues not warming up. The garage replaced thermostat water pump and a one way valve pipe. They said it gets to temp now but as soon as driving it drops to cold again. They said they cant fix it so i need to collect car and take elsewhere. Is this something anyone has heard of or knows how to fix as i need a working car and they clearly dont want to do anymore for me
  22. It's the same problem that you remember from the old days from your description: pinking or pre-ignition. It's the result of too weak a fuel mixture or a spark that's too far advanced or fuel of too low an octane rating. If you are using the right grade of fuel there is a problem with the engine that needs diagnosis.
  23. A worn prop shaft bearing should be easy enough to detect by any mechanic, so it does seem more likely to be the gearbox.
  24. It's a common problem on Audis, and probably other brands for all I know, that the Adblue crystallises in its tank, pump, and lines leading to the lot having to be renewed.
  25. Thanks for the confirmation.
