Hi guys, new here, 

Just a small question, has any body else having trouble with the Audi universal phone cradle (fitted in the armrest) and USB c cable not charging?

Welcome to the forum Mo, you'll find the members on here are a friendly and helpful bunch 🙂

My first port of call would be to see if there's a loose wire and you may need to remove the armrest or parts of the centre console to see this.

The universal cradle works perfectly with a micro USB cable, but not with a USB C cable. Put USB C cable into a bullet USB in the !Removed! lighter socket and it charges. 

So both items work independently but not together. All genuine Audi parts. 

Tried it on another A4 it exhibited exactly the same symptoms

as you've tried another a4 my theory is that the two systems aren't designed to work together for some strange reason. 

have you spoke to Audi about this? 

Spoke to Audi uk, they put me on hold, and although they were polite, not much use, offered to book me in for a diagnostic at Poole Audi.

Not been brave enough to ask how much that will be, Poole Audi just rebuilt the show room and work shop!
