Hi everyone. So i recently fitted a very basic cold air intake to hopefully add a little more power and economy but when i drive it a long distance it puts itself into limp mode? Can anyone explain why? I can only assume the engine isnt used to the extra air coming in and maybe needs a remap instead?

Hi Jack, are you sure the cold air feed is fitted correctly? I ask this because if there is even a small gap allowing air in or out past the maf sensor then this could be causing byiur issue. 

In failing that I'd advise byou get a diagnostic check carried out to see what fault codes flag up. As a correctly fitted cold air feed that is designed bfor your Audi shouldn't cause the car to go into limp mode.

Hi Steve, I believe its on properly, the guy in the garage thought that because the air sensor is on the inside of the bend, the aur flowing past it sometimes causes the sensor to think something is up but all the ones you can by online from the £13 basic ones to the k&n expensive ones are all exactly the same. I should mention that everytime it has gone into limp mode the glow plug sign on the dash was flashing?

Hmm so hypothetically it could be unconnected. I'd still recommend a diagnostic check. 

Just out if curiosity what kind of driving are you doing? 

I bet its the air mass sensor that is causing a fault . Glow plug warning is the engine limp mode ( not the actual glow plug issue ) . Get a vcds scan to show faults

Yeah i dont think there is an actual problem with the car neidzial, i think it could just be the sensor but how can you fix that?

Well I think we can safe to say it's not dpf related in light of the driving you do. 

Piotr is probably right with the MAF sensor. This sensor monitors airflow and you would have had to take it off the old airbox and then fitted to the new pipe work for the cold air feed. The mad will look like the one in the attached pic. The second pic shows the MAF sensor attached to the old airbox. The bit sticking up is where the electrical connector plugs in.
