So, I have a 2010 A4 b8 Avant. With the bog standard and fairly pants MMI Symphony. No DAB. No Sat Nav. No Bluetooth. It may as well have an 8 trak it feels that outdated.

I want to upgrade it and have looked at a few options but want some advice for what / if others have done anything.

1st option is to buy a used MMI 3G from ebay. With the upgraded screen, lower control unit etc and install that. Keeps it looking stock but is still fairly dated.

2nd option is an aftermarket screen upgrade that has android play / apple play / whatever other phone mirroring play. But there seems to be a bit of a wide range of these. From the cheep Chinese stuff to higher end full alpine kits.

What have people got in their A4 b8 to make it feel less like it has the ICE from an 1982 Austin Metro?

First option is more complicated and expensive than you think. It's more than just getting the head unit. Plus getting it retro fitted my by cost prohibitive.

Second option could be a better for you. But either way I'd be getting a professional to do the install.

Cheers

Steve

IMO

  1. You may find you need other modules etc. coding and firmware updates to get this to work. A specialist would be able to advise further on what is required.
  2. If you buy a generic one you will loose functionality outside of a headunit, such as car and air conditioning control if you have that.
    1. You can get aftermarket replacment ones for your specific car but these require further research as not all kits are created equal.

Do you have/can fit the ami port? It's not too much money to fit and code in usually. From here you can add things for bluetooth music streaming. I just have a bluetooth adapter for music and use the phone screen mounted for everything else, online radio etc. It launches Android Auto (on my phone) on connection as well.
