Key fobs not working

Featured Replies

Hi all

Can anyone help,

On two occasions now both of my 2016 A4  key fobs stopped working leaving me stranded, any ideas, Thanks.

Hello Michael,

Probably a silly question to ask, but you have renewed the fob batteries in recent times?

Also ‘stranded’? Does the car have key opening locks?

Kind regards,

Gareth.

If the key fob has a conventional key attached somewhere you might find the key slot is hidden on the drivers door handle behind a cap.

If you've got aa or similar recovery it might be worth giving them a call.

Their is a key inside the fob but when you use the key the alarm activates. You can't start the car as it's push button start. It works the next day so i don't think its the batterys.

Is it happening with both keys or just one?

If it's both abd you've changed the batteries then there could be an issue with the imobiliser etc and it might be worth getting a diagnostic check carried out.

Cheers

Steve

Michael indicates, but not confirms, that he hasn’t yet changed the batteries.

That would be my first obvious course of action to eliminate this possible connection.

Thanks Steve I was thinking a diagnostic check.

I changed one of the batteries after I managed to get the car started the next day, so fingers crossed.

No need for diagnostic then Michael. Hope you didn’t use a Poundland type battery!

Kind regards,

Gareth.

Hi so did your issue resolve? My battery is flat so wondering if car has immobilised itself?

I’ve got power to car from next source to starter motor under car but still fobs and manual blades don’t work. Batteries in fob changed

Glad it has. Might be worth getting a diagnostic check to see if there are any stored fault codes.
