Q4 Etron Ohme issue

Featured Replies

I have had my Audi Q4 etron for 4 months. I have the Ohme charger. It was working fine using Ohme app to schedule charging at the most efficient times as per my electricity EV tariff. I suddenly had an issue with it not charging properly and ended up doing a full factory reset on my car. Since then the car will only charge as per what the car tells it to do and not the Ohme app. I’ve turned off all the timers on the car/audi app but it still will not revert to using the Ohme scheduling. I’ve reset the charger, done a soft reset in the car. Checked everything I can on Ohme app / Audi app and the car itself. I’ve spoken to Audi dealership Audi Ev support and Ohme and none of them seem to be able to help, they all told me to turn off the schedule in the car which I have done already.. has anybody else had this issue? Am i missing anything obvious? I’ve spent hours googling and also going through all the settings and just can’t figure it out

Hi Joanne

I haven't had your problem, but I had a few problems regarding the set-up on the MMI. I got on to the Audi Help Line and they were able to take the MMI over and sorted it out for me. On a one to one basis, they sent me a link so that using my mobile phone as a camera so they could see what was on the screen and then they were able to guide me through the system and sort the problem. I hope you get it resolved.

Morning Jo,

I'm not sure if you are still having the same issue, but it sounds like you're experiencing the same issues as I've had. I've had a lot of back-and-forth with Ohme, and they are saying that the Audi app isn't compatible with Ohme—which begs the question: Why are Audi recommending Ohme if there's a known fault?

To help fix the issue, they've suggested unpairing the car from the Ohme app, doing a hard reboot (basically switching it off at the mains, waiting 15 mins and then switching back on and then continuing without an account). Here's the info they've sent me...

We have recently become aware that there is an issue affecting Audi API functionalities. Our Product team is currently investigating this issue and will look to resolve this as soon as possible.

As an Ohme Labs feature, communication directly through your vehicle (via API) is still in development. As a result, it may not work as intended from time to time.

For the moment you would need to disconnect the API link (by clicking Continue Without Account after selecting your car make) and then adjust your charge schedule slightly to 'add' a certain amount of charge rather than meeting a 'target'.

There is more information about how to charge without API support in our support article below:

How do I choose the right schedule for my car?

We're sorry for the inconvenience this may cause.

I hope this helps and good luck!

Hi, I am having loads of trouble with my ohme charger, the mileage on the audi app compared to ohme app do not tally up.

I have to reboot the charger then unpair and pair my vehicle, it then tally's up and will charge normally.

But I have to do this virtually every charge as it will charge, but start charging straightaway instead of waiting till 11.30pm, because the Ohme app shows 0 miles or near 0.

Ohme said they know about the issue, but I feel its not fit for purpose

Audi Q4 40 S Line 2023

  • 3 weeks later...

I've had my Q4 e-tron 45 quattro and free Ohme charger for nearly 3 months now and it is apparent to me the Ohme charger isn't "fully" compatible with the Q4.  It works, but not very well and certainly not as well as it should do given they are supposed to be "compatible".  The Ohme app is a bit of a joke and doesn't do what it should do, so if Ohme can't even get their app to work correctly, what chance have they got of ensuring the Audi Q4 API works?

I'm with Octopus Energy on their Intelligent Go tariff which is also "compatible" with the Ohme app and to be fair this appears to work okay and charging the car is only ever done at the cheaper 7p overnight tariff, even when "scheduled" charging is performed outside of the cheap rate overnight hours.

Some examples of issues I constantly have with the Ohme app:

1. 90% of the time when I plug the Ohme charger into the car, the Ohme charger/app is unable to connect to the Audi to determine what the current battery charge level is and therefore assumes 0%.  This has the impact of !Removed! up the automated charge schedule as it believes it needs to charge the car from 0% to 80%.  The car will still charge to 80%, however, errors will be generated indicating something went wrong and the car wouldn't allow it to charge.  This is clearly the charger reaching 80% and then trying to continue to charge it beyond this as it has no clue what the real car charge level is at.  This is basic functionality for a charger/app.  I, like others, contacted Ohme and got the usual response to power off etc. etc. and that the API is always in development and so can't be guaranteed.  Excuses, excuses!  They tried to tell me this was an internet connection issue, but my mobile gets a full signal when placed next to the charger.  Plus, if I mess about with the app, removing the car, then adding it back, this often causes the car to be contacted by the app and it then shows the correct charge level.  The fact that this "forced" communication with the car works, suggests this is more of a software issue than a connection issue.

2. Sometimes, on a very odd occasion, when I plug the Ohme charger into the car, the Ohme charger/app is able to read the car's charge level and so it then produces a "relevant" charge schedule.  The front screen of the app (and the charger display) correctly show the current car charge level, which is the start level for charging, and the target level, which will be 80%.  So, the charger/app has all the information it needs to charge the car from the current level to 80%, or so you would think.  The generated charge schedule is often wrong as the poor Ohme software has decided to create a schedule to charge the car from the current charging level, to 100%!  Where does this 100% figure come from?  Even when the "Charge to" figure in the Ohme app shows 80%, the generated schedule uses a target of 100%.  It is just so shoddy!  Needless to say, the Ohme app will successfully charge the car to 80% but attempts to continue charging beyond this and this fails resulting in the Ohme app generating errors to the affect that something went wrong.

So, 99% of the time, while the car is at least charging to 80%, there are always issues with the Ohme app and Ohme support are unable to help me resolve them.

One suggestion I had form Ohme support was to remove the Car from the app completely so that the charger/app never tries to connect to it.  In this case it is then necessary to tell the app how much charge to "add" so setting the charge level is essentially done manually.  Suggestions like this don't inspire any confidence that these compatibility issues will ever be resolved.  I'm at a loss as to why Audi have partnered with Ohme, but then the Audi app isn't that brilliant either so maybe Audi think this level of functionality provided by the poor Ohme app is acceptable.

I would be interested to hear if others are having similar issues with their Q4's and Ohme app, or is it just me?

Hi Paul

Sorry to hear you have all these problems with your OHME charger. I had problems with mine initially with voltage fluctuations and charging faults. After speaking to OHME I fitted a voltage surge protector and had the usual 60amp household fuse upped to 100amp (the car was drawing 30amp when charging) and I have had no more problems for nearly 2 years. The Apps seem to running OK as well.

Hi Tony, thanks for sharing your experience.  So, to confirm, you have the Ohme app configured to include your car so it reads the car's current charge level when you plug the charger in, then creates an automatic charging schedule?

Just wanting to confirm your configuration is the same as mine.

Milleniumaire,

That's identical to my issue, I paid over £1,000 for my charger with the extra length lead.

A couple of hours ago I  contacted Ohme and asked for a refund as its not fit for purpose, they got back within 10 minutes stating that this issue is under investigation.

Thanks Colin, while not ideal, it's good to know I'm not the only person experiencing this issue.  It did make me wonder if this is a generic Ohme problem with any car, or if it is specific to Ohme and the Q4.

Your app screen dumps are typical of what I see when plugging the charger in, although I see your car has already started charging, so the app probably "defaulted" to 0% initially as a result of it not contacting the car, for whatever reason.

Here's the scenario where the Ohme app actually contacts the car and gets the charge level, so we have 3 screen dumps; MyAudi app charge level, Ohme app charge level and target charge, and Ohme charging schedule:

Given that the Ohme app has the current battery charge level (38%) and the Charge to level (80%), how is it even possible for the app to produce a charging schedule that ranges from 0% to 100%.  Absolutely appalling Ohme app software!  This simply shows the Ohme app isn't fit for purpose.

I did notice the first time slot is prior to the current time!  So why even bother including it in the schedule?

I am fairly old skool with apps and such. But mine seems to operate correctly. The Audi app and the OHME app. Do you think that when it shows 0% it means that is 0% of the charge selected and the 100% means it has charged 100% of it's selected 80% charge. if you understand what I mean.

I've got to be honest with you I only charge my GT about every 3 weeks. I have had the car 21 months and have now done 4000 miles. you chaps are probably doing that every couple of months.

Credit where it is due, I found Ohme to be very helpful in trying to rectify the problems I had with scheduled charging. In the end it turned out that the fault lay in the abysmal design of my car's charging system.

There is a well known figure in the charge point trade, whose name I do not recall at the moment, who claims all the apps from the major suppliers are rubbish, to use a polite euphemism.

Hi Cliff,

I found them helpful, but after maybe 20 tickets in and reply's that Audi are aware etc, I have been more than patient. The old OHME app seemed to work ok, I asked them to revert back to that, which is not possible. My Audi Q4 40 S line is a fantastic car, apart from this charging issue.

Definitely not. On the odd occasion I have jumped through hoops to get the Ohme app to contact the car (delete car, add car back etc) then when the Ohme app shows the correct current charge, it has also managed to generate a correct charge schedule that starts at the current charge and the last figure is 80%. It's pot luck whether it does this or still uses 0% to start or 100% to end! There is something seriously wrong with the way the Ohme app has been developed for it to be so inconsistent.

I’ve had my Q4 for just under two months and my Ohme charger for 1 month. All was fine with the Ohme charger until the last week or so! The car errors continuously. If I leave it on ‘red’ is often rectifies itself overnight and charges. However I cannot trust the charging and as I am doing 150+ miles a day I need to make sure I am topping up to 80% every night.

i don’t think the Ohme is reading the car at all. The display doesn’t suggest the current battery level in the car just that I need to top it up which I manually change on the app ie 60% if I know I’m near 20% left. If there is more still in the battery I will change to 50 or 40%. I have yet to get below 10% and only charged to 100% once to test the capabilities so I am aware what I need to do when I plan a longer drive.

I really thought range anxiety was going to be my biggest issue with an EV. I soon overcome that knowing I can easily get 250+ miles from an 80% charge. My real anxiety is waking up to find the car hasn’t charged!

I am doing 2000+ miles a month in my Q4 so need to charge everyday.

I am reaching a similar conclusion via Octopus. Over £1000 with the longer lead and I have very little faith in the car charging as the majority of the time when I plug in the car identifies an error.

I’ve had voltage fluctuations. As high as 269v! The provider and Ohme have suggested this has been rectified. I’m not convinced. It’s 244v at the moment and this has triggered yet another charging fault!
