Oil catch can

Featured Replies

Hi, first of all thanks for letting me join the forum, look forward to hearing some informative chat and talking about audi's of which I love. My first post is a question regarding oil catch can, should I fit one on my a6 2.0 tdi c7 or not. I have the eml on and a code of PO401. Would it be of any benefit also was thinking of egr delete. Any thoughts appreciated. Thanks billy g.

you can get the egr and dpf napped out if you have a remap. Make sure you use one that's got a rolling road so it's done properly. You'll be looking around £500.

But bare in mind the government are looking at ways to test cars to see if they have emissions cheating software installed.

Alternatively replace the egr or egr cooler if that's the problem.

Thanks for the reply steve, would replace egr and cooler but understand it's difficult to get at and expensive. Friend knows guy who blanks off egr and software deletes for £250. If car was newer or easier to get at to change over parts I would. It's a 63 reg. C7 2.0 tdi.

Hi I would caution against this as there are two EGR systems on your car and as far as I am aware NO ONE has developed the software to disable both, the main EGR never goes but then in the DPF is the other valve and cooler which you can't eradicate due to the complexity of the software involved, as Cliff pointed out the blanking/deletion of the main valve will give you raised cylinder head temperatures due to the hotter gas and most likely premature turbo failure because of the extra thermal stress, apart from which what are you actually going to get for £250 apart from wallet destruction in the not to distant future.

Steve.

How do I know exactly what is the issue as code I'm sure was p0401, have deleted and hasn't came back on yet but sure it will return, said something like insufficient flow of egr. So is cooler OK?, is dpf OK? Does anyone know the codes for these parts. Or do you just replace everything connected with emissions. Obviously something is chocked but what to do. As for my original question or part of.. is an oil catch can worth fitting? Appreciate all comments and suggestions. Thanks billy.

An oil catch pot is a crude and only partial solution. Better to solve the real problem rather than introduce a bodge in the hope that it might alleviate the symptoms.

As for the codes, ignore them. Take off and clean the EGR valve, ditto the DPF.

Would have a go, but keep reading it's a bugger to get at or is mine easier depending upon year, not sure. Is there anywhere on the forum that could help with that.

Hi folks, just a wee update on where I am with the car. My a6 is a 2013 euro 5 which I think is easier to get at. Seems to be accessible from the top from videos I have seen on YouTube. New egr valve and cooler "valeo" seems to be no more than £300. Think that's the route am going to go. There's 1 torx type fixing to manifold that apparently is difficult to get at but can be done.

Hi folks, before I start doing anything, can I ask  can you take the egr valve off to clean while not bothering the cooler and fluid. My a6 is euro 5 2013 which seems easier to work on than the euro 6, would that be right. TIA billy.
