Hello guys, I’m new here I literally just registered, I hope I’ve posted this in the right place!

So I’ll be having my car delivered very soon and just trying to get things together so I can have it looking the part.

It’s currently sitting on 16 inch tyres, the question I have is, would I be able to swap these to 17 inch tyres? You see, I really like the rotor alloys and think they would look nice on 17 inch wheels.

Hi you can swap to 17 inch as long as you make sure the tyre/ wheel profile matches the 16 inch set up in overall diameter.

Hi,

To add to the above post, you should make

sure that the E.T. No on the back of the wheels

that you are fitting, matches the one's you are

taking off.  p.s. E.T. elates to the offset.

Thank you for your reply! This might sound stupid but how would I make sure of this? Sorry I’m clueless with these things.

Ive attached an image of the right size for the 16s, would the 17s be ok looking at their profile and width? I’m not sure if that’s what you meant, I’m sorry.

Taking it your current tyre size is 205/60/16, and you want to increase the wheel diameter to 17inch, you have to ensure that the ‘rolling diameter’ of the 17 inch wheel matches that of your current 16 inch. To achieve that, the profile of the 17 will have to be less than that of the 16 inch

The maths:- 

Current rolling dia. of 16 inch = 2x (60% of 205mm) + 16 inches converted to mm. To convert 16 inches to mm, multiply by 25.4. 
To change to 17 inch wheels at a tyre width of 225mm:- first convert 17 inch to mm, and subtract that from the rolling dia of your current 16 inch. Divide that difference by 2, and work out what % of 225mm that represents - that will be your necessary profile figure as near as you can get it. 
I used to work these out for members, but I left school over 60 years ago, and found it wore my brain out!

p.s. Some clever so and so is now going to tell you there are websites which work it out for you, but worth giving your maths a work out instead.

To put it differently: if you make the outside diameter of the wheel one inch bigger you should make the inside diameter of the tyre one inch smaller yet keep the overall diameter the same.

If none of the explanations make sense go to a decent tyre shop for advice.

Personally I would not make this change as I hate the harsh uncomfortable ride it produces, but if appearance is more important to you than comfort, have at it.
