2017 audi a4 avant - difficulty with engaging first

Featured Replies

Hi All
I recently bought a 2017 audi a4 avant 1.4 tfsi. Love the car, but me and the wife have found difficulty engaging first at the traffic lights from stop. The car went in for its mot today and I had audi diagnostic done as well to see if there was a clutch problem. Audi said the clutch is excessively worn so needs new clutch and flywheel at £3,166.00.
I was wondering if this really is a clutch issue. We certainly have no clutch slip. Apparently the clutch bite is quite ‘high’.
Wondering if anyone has had similar issue?
many thanks
Jason

If you've bought this within the last 30 days then it's the dealer who sold the car responsibility to fix it FOC as you're entitled to a full refund In the first 30 days after sale. As technically the car isn't fit for purpose.

Audi sounds like they're spot on with diagnosis but you could always get a second opinion.

The other reason it'd struggle to select a great could be because of a warn gear linkage

Hello Jason,

I’m very much in agreement with Steve, but did you buy it from a dealer or a private individual, and does your ‘recently’ fit within 30 days?
What mileage has the car done Jason?
Do I understand it correctly that you’ve entrusted this 7 year old car to an Audi dealership for its MOT?
Kind regards,

Gareth.

Hi Gareth

I bought the car from Ron Skinners in west wales, Neyland.  Annoyingly, I took out a warranty plan but it only covers the var for six months or 6k whichever is first.  We bought the car in march this year and are around 6k from when we bought it.  I did the mot at VAG so they could do a diagnostic at the same time.

In the meantime, Skinner has offered to do the clutch and fly wheel for £1600.00 so half the amount…

I feel for you Jason, and it will be of no consolation to suspect that if this had occurred within 6months/6K miles, your warranty might have treated it as wear and tear, and the repair would not have been covered.
Thanks for keeping us informed, and good luck in getting it rectified.

Kind regards,

Gareth.

Ah, the notorious dealer warranty. Sadly, none of them are worth the paper they are written on.
